## **From 01/09/204 Period start date To 31/08/205 Period end date**

**Charity name: Cats in Need Menorca**

**Charity registration number: 1161878**

## **Objectives and Activities Caring for street cats in Menorca by trapping and neutering**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document|Para 1.17|**To relieve the suffering of cats in**
**Menorca by trapping, neutering and**
**where possible returning to where they**
**were caught.**
**To provide veterinary care for the sick**
**and injured.**
**Provide and maintain feeding stations**
**throughout the island.**
**Working with the locals to control, in a**
**humane way, the cat population to**
**prevent unwanted kittens being born**
**and therefore unnecessary suffering.**|
|Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.|Para 1.17 and
1.19|**Our main activities are trapping and**
**neutering along with caring for the sick**
**and often injured cats in traffic**
**accidents.**
**We work very hard to educate the locals**
**on the advantages of controlling the cat**
**population. Menorca is a holiday island**
**and we find that many holidaymakers**
**are very relieved to find the cats on the**
**island so well cared for. Of course this**
**encourages them to donate to the**
**Charity.**|
|Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit|Para 1.18|**I confirm the trustees have regard for**
**the help and guidance given by the**
**Charities Commission for the benefit of**
**the public.**|

## **Achievements and Performance**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.|Para 1.20|**The focus of our work has changed a**
**little over the last year.**
**We continue to neuter cats, with**
**continued support for basic neutering**
**from the Town Halls. Our own**
**established colonies, many of which are**
**now over 25 years old, are well**
**controlled with little neutering required.**
**However the cats are getting older with**
**many needing considerable veterinary**
**treatment, with dental treatment and ear**
**problems at the forefront. Our vet is**
**particularly skilled at providing dental**
**care.**
**We do frequently have to remove them**
**from their colonies and take them to our**
**homes so they can live out their**
**days in comfort and safety.**
**The colony cats on the whole adapt very**
**well to their new circumstances being**
**used to living with others.**
**It is a source of joy to our helpers to see**
**them settle in.**
**Apart from the usual kidney problems**
**we do lose a lot of cats with tumours.**
**The new Animal Welfare Bill, whilst in**
**theory is designed to protect the cats, in**
**practice can do just the opposite as vets**
**are now restricted in what medications**
**and treatments they can prescribe with**
**many more forms to be filled out and**
**expensive tests required to prove the**
**need for certain medications.**|

**This can also delay treatment whilst permission is sought. The College of Veterinary surgeons in Spain has ongoing talks with the administration. Fundraising is more difficult by the year as fewer and fewer tourists come to the island. The new fence around the house and garden is complete and has made a wonderful change to the grounds. Various sections can be closed off to provide different areas of isolation if required. We would like to be able to put a new roof on with some good shade.**
