The trustees present their report and the financial statements for the year ended 31st May 2022.
Reference and administrative information set out on page 3 forms part of this report. The financial statements comply with current statutory requirements and the Statement of Recommended Practice - Accounting and Reporting by Charities.
## **Structure, governance & management**
The organisation is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) - Foundation Registered 26th May 2015. The charity was established under the objects.
All trustees give their time voluntarily and receive no benefits from the charity. Any expenses reclaimed from the charity are set out in the financial summary.
## **Objectives and Activities**
1. To promote and protect the good health of people and the families affected by Lynch Syndrome for the public benefit through support, information and increased public awareness and such other means as the trustees deem fit.
2. Nothing in this constitution shall authorise an application of the property of the CIO for the purposes which are not charitable in accordance with Section 7 of the Charities and Trustees Investment (Scotland) Act and Section 2 of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008. Public benefit focus on ensuring that our activities achieve our charitable aims.

The trustees review the aims, objectives and activities of the charity each year. This report looks at what the charity has achieved and the outcomes of its work within the last twelve months. The trustees report the success of the key activities and the benefits the charity has brought to those groups of people that it is set up to help. The review also helps the trustees ensure the charity's aims, objectives and activities remain focused on its stated purposes.
The trustees have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity's Commission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity's aims and objectives and in planning its future activities. In particular, the trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to the aims and objectives that have been set.
## **Beneficiaries of our services**
Lynch Syndrome UK direct beneficiaries are any person who has Lynch Syndrome and their families and friends.
## **Charitable activities in the past year**
Lynch Syndrome UK is a registered charity stemming from a long running support group on Facebook. Our many members are passionate about our cause to educate and empower people living with this genetic condition and offering support to both themselves and their families when they need it most.
Lynch Syndrome UK aims to ensure that for the public benefit, people and their families affected by Lynch Syndrome are provided with support in the form of information, signposting and listening, also to increase public awareness of the syndrome.
Our vision is that all people affected by Lynch Syndrome in the UK have access to standardised screening, thus enabling prevention of the development of cancer and early diagnosis enabling survival.
Lynch Syndrome UK is an all-volunteer organisation and is founded and governed by Lynch Syndrome survivors and their families. The charity is dedicated towards protecting families and saving lives of those at high risk due to a hereditary genetic predisposition to various cancers which often strike at an early age.

If diagnosed early, we believe Lynch Syndrome survivors have positive outcomes which enhance survival, the longevity and quality of life as well as the emotional wellbeing of those of us who are affected by Lynch Syndrome.
The charity's aim is to be the leading source of information and support for individuals and families affected by Lynch Syndrome in the UK.
In light of this context the charity has delivered the following activities to achieve its charitable objectives:
## **Training and Events**
• LSUK held their first face to face conference after the Covid pandemic. All presentations were recorded and distributed throughout our support networks and media channels. Presentations were also presented via live stream across our social channels and support group.
• LSUK’s support group has reached 3,000 members and continues to grow.
• We have been working closely with NHS England in the implementation of the National Lynch Syndrome Project which will provide education and training to clinics and hospitals in the care of patients with Lynch syndrome. The project will also see the transfer of patients to the National Bowel Screening Program to ensure timely surveillance and treatments.
• We have also worked on a few projects with Leeds University Hospitals with Dr Julian Barwell and Queen Mary Hospital with Dr Ranjit Manchandra to design an app for patients. Both projects are ongoing and still in development stages in order to design the best possible patient tool.
• We have worked with the University of Exeter on an economic study SAMPLES (NIHR129713) Effectiveness and costeffectiveness of gynaecological surveillance for women with Lynch syndrome: systematic reviews and economic evaluation.
• LSUK continue to work with St Mark’s Hospital and the patient passports are operational and also available to other hospitals and trusts. It is the hope that they become a standard document which will be recognised by healthcare professionals. They will be developed into the apps so patients can have both physical and online versions.
## **Help and Advice**
1. Our information service delivered through the website and social media offers free support and key information to people with Lynch Syndrome and their families. Medical professionals are also members of our social media groups.
2. Our website remains an important source of information and support for the public, to either self-serve or be signposted to third-party services and websites.
## **Membership**
## Social Media
Our highest performing and most influential channel was the Facebook support group, which has reached a membership of over 2.3k people. This is a high and significant figure in terms of the number of individuals that have gained access to the content. Numbers continue to increase at a steady rate each year.
## **Partnership Working**
Partnership and collaboration is key to Lynch Syndrome UK being able to deliver its aims. We simply could not provide the range and level of support without the help of our growing number of partner organisations that we work with.

## **How Lynch Syndrome UK is run**
## Public Benefit
The trustees confirm that in planning Lynch Syndrome UK's activities, they have given careful consideration to how Lynch Syndrome UK has fulfilled its charitable objectives. The Trustees do not identify any possible detriment or harm arising from the activities of the charity.
## **The Trustees**
The trustees meet four times a year but due to lockdowns, all meetings have been online with full attendance. With a small organisation and group of trustees, Lynch Syndrome UK does not work through formal sub-committees. Instead, the trustees meet periodically to progress operational matters and prepare for forthcoming meetings.
## **Volunteers**
Their contributions have been invaluable and we thank them enormously.
## **Financial Results**
The charity had a surplus of £41,123 this year. This was raised by donations, fundraising and sales of merchandise. The total expenditure was £9,191 which included £6,087 for the conference this year. The charity had funds in the bank at the year end of £89,841.
## **Reserves Policy**
The charity aims to have enough funds in the bank to pursue the objects of the charity, such as raising awareness through conferences and literature. Given the last two years, the trustees do not feel that the amount of reserves held is excessive.
## **Statement of Responsibility of the Trustees**
Our trustees are responsible for preparing the report of the Trustees' and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and Charity Commission guidance and requirements.
The trustees have prepared the financial statements which give true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charity for that
In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to:
- Select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently
- Observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP
- Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent
- Prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charity Commission requirements. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps from the prevention and detection of fraud other irregularities.

## **to the Trustees of Lynch Syndrome UK**
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 May 2022 which are set out on pages 6 to 8.
## **Responsibilities and basis of report**
As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).
I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section
## **Independent examiner's statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
