CHAIRMANS REPORT FOR THE PERIOD 11t SEPTEMBER 2023 to 31•t AUGUST 2024
Our year started with a very successful arKI ￿Joyable Rye Proms event, whith n(rw seems to be a regular
fjxiure in the local social calendar. All ourfurKI-raising 8venirKJs were profitable and much enjoyed by those
who attended. Funding ha$ been harder to find and achieve due to oversubscribed applications for the
trusts that were canvassed but we are pleased with our support from the Sussex Communty Foundabon.
Numbers attending events have still not retumed to prtrcovid 19 levels but we endeavour to Create
enjoyable evenings. whilst giving go(¥J value for mow. It is lovety lo see our students not onty playing at
some of the events bui taking an active part in heEping. Since ￿ began in 21))9. we have created a family
wlthin the R WA, and it is plea￿ng to hear from som8 of <wiginal St￿Jents in how they are progressing through
life. We are al80 pleased to have parentsl 8UPWt from many of our more recent stud8nts. who also brlng
along famity and friends.
Our Sunday concerts, whitst not as well support￿1 as we wwld like. hekl their cbvn w) as much as all made
small profft, were highly enjoyable. and people that attwthd are retumir¥J We were fortunate to receiva
a donation from the Theatre Organ Club of Great Britban of £500 to asslst with running these concerts.
Five concerts were arrarvJed and four will b8 arranged duriThJ th? next finan(>al year. Our Chairman was
given infomiation from an address list of Friends of Rye )h￿rIlIZer members from 2014: it made for grlm
r8ading. a8 most of the members at that time were known to have now pa8s&J on or to be of an age or
incapacty where unable to drive to tho coiKerts. Thi8 expw*nce confirmed that we are very much
'st8rting again. in attrncting an audiervx the Sunday concets. so. on that basi8, we are doing welll
Regular and donwJ were thinner on the gro￿K1 this year, as you will see from ow ffinancial report. Vve
are most grateful to those who continue to support our Sponsor a St￿￿ent Scheme. W8 are also dellghted
wlth the continued support of local esL* agency, Rush V¥fjtt IAfjlson, for continuing to sponsor the hire of
the hall. A private loan of £2,000 was required to a8SiSt with running and tea¢hirKJ costs during t￿ summer
months, which we hope to repay before too lorYJ.
We continued to enjoy good relations thr(whout the with the Aquinas Trust, who run Rye College,
and we much appreciate the continuing supwt of Prin(apal, Mr Dom Dthvns, arvj the Senior Leadership
Team. It is anticipated that our 'nom)af racruitinent wesentati(xts will continue in the new college year.
The time between recruitment sessions has led to us paying m￿e than ￿ would have Ilked for storing
Instruments this year.
Once again, the proj8Ct could not be the success it is withrAJt the continued prOfesS￿nalIsrn and
commitment of Principal Tutor Michael v14￿kIndge, who gives muth of his personal time to support the
whole project and who, in his professional capaaty. has continued to work wonders wilh the students in
their168sons. Our e￿n￿￿letter5 ¢ontinu8d dumg the year. when we had suffiaent newsto tell. To conclude
2023124 will be rernernb￿ed as a year in which ￿ survived and continued doing whatwe do best in bringing
hwh qualty leaming to our &udents togett)er with some memorable fund-raising evenings.
