CHAIRMANS REPORT FOR PERIOD 1ST SEvfEMBER 2022 to 31ST AUGUST 2023
Our year stsrted with a very successfijl and enjoyable Rye Proms Nighc with Sally-Ann Hart M.P. as our
distinguished guest, who enjoyed hersetf so much that she retumed for our Christmas cOn￿rt as well and is full
of admirakn'on for the aims, objectives and results we have vith Ihe RWA, a credit to all the team.
Funding has been a Iitue harder to find and athieve but We are ahvays pthed to receive regular support from
the Sussex Community Foundation and The Rye Fund.
We are still not seeing the same numbers coming through the door ft)r our events as ￿ did pre Covid-19,
something we have in common with many Ven￿S, but we endeavour to create an enjoyable evening 8nd give
good value for morw. It is lovety to see our senior skndents not onty playing at some of the events but taking
an active part in helping. Since we stsrted in 2iJ)9. we have created a family wtthin the RWA and it is pleasing
to héar from some of onginal students in hLv4 Ihey are progressing through life. W8 are also pleased to have
parental support from our more recent st￿, who also bring along famity and friends.
During the 88rflar part of the Year￿ were athiised by the Fiiends of Rye Wurfits (FORV4 that they were calling
it a day. I founded FORW in 19￿ and ran rl until res￿ning in 2016 to focus more on RWA. The time warp of
Covid-19 meant that their management committee could rM)t foresee numbers retuming for thelr Sunday
afternoon concerts throughout the year, their numbers had already been on the decline p￿m8r¢h 2020, and
also some oftheir team struggling with health issue, all combtning to make it time for them to stop I could
not see this project that I had seen develop and grcAY just stop, espe(x'alty it was through FORWthat I refijrbished
our Wurfitzer, so we tried 8 Sunday aftemoon ¢on(*rt in July vith MicJ)9g1 ar￿ John Mann, 8 very popularTheatre
Organist. This concert had an audience we m* a profrt. so ￿an to arrange four Sunday cOn￿rt ovèr
the coming 12 months. Time will tell, and I do not see any possitslty of retuming to audiences of 200 to 300 as
we dSd in our heyday, but one can only hop8 for ￿Joyable aftemoons that allry￿ people who can't attend our
Friday evenings to come along and Ihat make a wofiL
Regular and new dcfflations were slighty thinner on the grouThl thls year, as you will $88 from our financial reporL
We are most grateful to those who conts'nue to support our Sp)nsor a Student Scheme. We are also delighted
with the continued support of local EsL9te Agents. Rush Wmt Wlson, for continuing to sponsor the hire ofthe hall.
We continued to enjoy good relations thrO￿h￿l the year with the Aquinas Trust. vtho run Rye Col*e, and
much appreciate the continuing support of Executive Principal Bary Blakelock and the Senior Leadership Team.
It is anb'cipated that our"nonnal" recruilment presentstions wlll continue in the new college year.
Once again, the project could not be the success it is wilhoth Ihe contlnu￿1 professionalism and commitment of
Principal Tutor Michael Wooldridge. who gNes muth of his personal time to support the W￿le project and who,
in his professional caparity, has continl￿d to work wonders with the students in their lessons. Our 8-newsletters
continued during the year, when we had Suffic￿ news to tell our 3(M)+ supporters to this medium.
To conclude. 2022r23 will be remembered as a year in thich we survived and continued doing vthat we do best,
bringing high quality leaming to our sbjdents together with some memorable events, vthich help both to raise
funds arKJ spread the word.
