## Mission Statement

“Our mission is to establish a global fund to facilitate the release and rehabilitation back to the wild or near-wild of orca and other cetaceans in captivity and to give support to specialists, scientists and organisations working to achieve this”.

Orca Rescues Foundation’s Vision

We hope that Orca, _0rcinus orca_ , otherwise known as killer whale will not be subjected to captivity in the hands of organisations that abuse them to “entertain” human beings and for profit. We see a Planet Earth with its’ people respecting the right of these animals to live a free and natural life in un-polluted oceans.

Orca currently held captive should be released and rehabilitated in sea sanctuaries that exist or can be created to enable rehabilitation prior to return to the wild ocean. This can be done .

Charitable Objectives of Orca Rescue Foundation

The Charities objectives as set out in the Articles of association.

1) For the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of orcas in need of care and attention who are currently captive by the provision of funding and research to determine whether the orca’s release to a sea sanctuary or the wild is in its best interests and if so, to help in its’ release and with its’ continued care and support.

2) To advance the education of the general public on wild and captive orcas, their ecology and familial traits and the effect of captivity on Orcas.

## Trustee Report

The board of trustees remains unchanged.

Virtually every charity was still feeling the effects of the 2020 pandemic. Particularly the smaller ones.

Having no fiscal costs such as wages allowed us to weather the storm. This is largely due to the voluntary time given by our trustees and volunteers. As I write the 2021 report the signs for 2022 are more optimistic as the world’s doors continue to open.

Our Facebook Social Media has been extremely successful in providing information and awareness to many. So despite progress being minimal with fundraising the awareness being created in the background is making a difference to the amount of people not supporting Captivity and fewer people are buying a ticket to see Captive Orca.

Thanks to those who help us and a huge thank you to Britney who had taken care of so many of our posts with her excellent Captive and Free Orca Knowledge, often comparing the 2 and enhancing the importance of them needing their Freedom.

Here’s to a much more successful year for everyone.

## **Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of the Orca Rescues Foundation**

I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 December 2021.

This report is made solely to the trustees in accordance with Section 145 of the Charities Act 2011. My work has been undertaken so that I might state to the charity’s trustees those matters I am required to state to them in an Independent Examiner’s report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the charity and the charity’s trustees for my examination work.

## **Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner**

The Group’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. They consider that an audit is not required for this year (under Section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act)) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

- Examine the accounts (under Section 145 of the Charities Act);

- To follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners (under Section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act); and

- To state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of Independent Examiner's report**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Group and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently

no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **Independent Examiner's statement**

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention.
