Mission Statement

“Our mission is to establish a global fund to facilitate the release and rehabilitation back to the wild or near-wild of orca and other cetaceans in captivity and to give support to specialists, scientists and organisations working to achieve this”.

Orca Rescues Foundation’s Vision

We hope that Orca, 0rcinus orca , and other cetaceans, will not be subjected to captivity in the hands of organisations that abuse them to “entertain” human beings and for profit. We see a Planet Earth with its’ people respecting the right of these animals to live a free and natural life in un-polluted oceans.

Orca and other cetaceans currently held captive should be released and rehabilitated in sea sanctuaries that exist or can be created to enable rehabilitation prior to return to the wild ocean. This can be done .

Charitable Objectives of Orca Rescue Foundation

The Charities objectives as set out in the Articles of association.

1) For the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of orcas in need of care and attention who are currently captive by the provision of funding and research to determine whether the orca’s release to a sea sanctuary or the wild is in its best

interests and if so, to help in its’ release and with its’ continued care and support.

2) To advance the education of the general public on wild and captive orcas, their ecology and familial traits and the effect of captivity on Orcas.

Trustee Report

The Board of Trustees remains unchanged.

Like all other ‘not for profit’ organisations this year has been very challenging.

The world has been shown, by mother nature, exactly how vulnerable it is with the advance on a pandemic scale of the Covid 19 virus

It is alleged by many scientists that this virus emanated from the abuse of animals in a ‘wet market’ in Wuhan, China. Animals kept in shockingly unhygienic conditions and in close proximity is simply unacceptable, but will the world and countries that abuse animals learn ?

With the above in mind ORF joined Animals for Asia (AfA) who carry out great work to ensure animal welfare in Asia is documented and hopefully improved. As a supporting organisation within AfA we put our voice to many concerns regarding animal cruelty including those inflicted on cetaceans.

On a more positive note and with the help of our supporters we were able to fund the manufacture of specialised dolphin transport stretchers for the Aegean Marine Life Sanctuary (AMLS).

During the Greek lockdown due to Covid 19 the team on the Island of Lipsi remained on site and soldiered on with the work that is needed to put the final

touches to completing this fantastic sanctuary. On behalf of everyone ORF has fully supported this project and will continue to do so as funding permits.

ORF remains optimistic that the coming year will allow a recovery to near normal activities and that we will be able to continue funding projects that meet our visions.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of the Orca Rescues Foundation

I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 December 2020.

This report is made solely to the trustees in accordance with Section 145 of the Charities Act 2011. My work has been undertaken so that I might state to the charity’s trustees those matters I am required to state to them in an Independent Examiner’s report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the charity and the charity’s trustees for my examination work.

Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner

The Group’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. They consider that an audit is not required for this year (under Section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act)) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

Basis of Independent Examiner's report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Group and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently

no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent Examiner's statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention.
