Chairman’s Report Bakindik Early Childhood Development School
Dear Sponsors, Supporters, and Friends,
It is with a mix of gratitude and resolve that I present this year’s report on the operations of our Early Childhood Development School in Bakindik, The Gambia. The past year has been fraught with challenges, yet also marked by moments of progress that reaffirm the importance of the work we do.
Regrettably, we have seen no additions to our sponsorship program this year. This has compounded the financial strain we experienced during the pandemic, which continues to impact our ability to consistently supply the school with necessary consumables. Despite these challenges, the spirit of our mission remains strong, and we continue to persevere.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to our dedicated team in The Gambia, who have selflessly agreed to maintain their positions without an annual increment in remuneration. Their commitment to the children and community of Bakindik is truly admirable and underpins the continuation of our work during these trying times.
In light of our financial constraints, we have had to scale back the feeding program to two days per week. While this decision was difficult, we are hopeful that it will be a temporary measure as we actively seek additional financial support through sponsorships here in the UK.
On a brighter note, we were able to provide new uniforms for the children this year, and the school has received a fresh coat of paint, greatly improving its appearance and creating a more welcoming environment. Although there is still work to be done—mostly aesthetic improvements—we are optimistic that these projects will be addressed in the months ahead, pending the availability of funds.
While this has not been an easy year, the rewards of our efforts can be seen in the education we continue to provide to the children of Bakindik, entirely free of charge. Their smiles, progress, and enthusiasm for learning remind us of the vital role this school plays in their lives and the future of their community.
Finally, I extend my deepest gratitude to our sponsors, without whom none of this would be possible. Your generosity fuels our mission and brings hope to so many. Thanks also to our tireless team of volunteers in the UK, who continue to support and champion our cause.
As we look to the year ahead, we remain committed to overcoming the challenges we face and ensuring that the children of Bakindik receive the quality education they deserve. Together, we can make a lasting difference.
Yours sincerely, Sharon Fox Chairman
