Dear esteemed members,

As we reflect on the challenges and triumphs of the past year, it is evident that we have weathered a formidable storm. The global pandemic cast a long shadow over our endeavours, profoundly affecting our ability to welcome visitors, secure funding, and attract sponsors. Despite these adversities, our unwavering commitment to education remained steadfast.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated team in The Gambia, whose resilience and determination amidst adversity have been nothing short of commendable. Their tireless efforts ensured that despite the constraints imposed by the pandemic, the core mission of providing education persevered.

Amidst the trials, there are also reasons for celebration. Our feeding program has flourished, now providing nourishment to our students twice a week. The prospect of expanding this initiative to thrice weekly is promising, albeit contingent upon the fluctuating costs of essential ingredients, which have surged due to supply chain disruptions.

Looking ahead, our focus remains on meeting the pressing needs of our students. The resumption of shipping operations in the upcoming year is imperative, as many of our children urgently require footwear, and a considerable portion of their uniforms are in need of replacement.

While we anticipate a more favourable climate for sponsorship and fundraising in the coming year, it is paramount that we proceed with caution. We must ensure that our primary objective of providing free education is not compromised, even if it means deferring non-essential improvements to the school's infrastructure until the following fiscal year.

I extend my deepest appreciation to the entire team for their unwavering dedication to our core belief: that every child deserves the transformative power of education. As we embark on the journey ahead, I am honoured to lead such a passionate and committed group, and I am confident that together, we will continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Yours sincerely,

Sharon Fox Chairperson of the Board
