## **Structure, governance and management**
The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) foundation formed on 21 May 2015.
## **Method of recruitment and appointment of trustees**
The trustees of the charity are appointed for a term of three years at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees.
## **Objectives and activities**
## **The charity's objects**
To further or benefit the residents of Hainworth Wood and the neighbourhood, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together the said residents and the Local Authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the residents.
In furtherance of these objects but not otherwise, the trustees shall have power:
To establish or secure the establishment of a community centre and to maintain or manage or cooperate with any statutory authority in the maintenance and management of such a centre for activities promoted by the charity in furtherance of the above objects.
## **Public benefit statement**
In setting our objectives and planning our activities our Trustees have given serious consideration to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit and in particular the advancement of education and advancement of community development.

## **Achievements and performance**
During the year ending March 2022 the Centre has successfully completed major building works and reopened to the community.
In the early part of the year the Centre remained closed to the public. We continued to run an emergency food parcel scheme from the building. Having secured further financial support the roof was replaced by a competent contractor in November/ December.
Throughout January and February the building was cleared out and cleaned up in readiness for reopening. All health and safety measures were checked before reopening the building to the public on 24th February. A community engagement event was held on 26th February at which local people were invited to share their views on what activities they would like to see. Local stakeholders and community organisations were also invited along to meet us and we have built up excellent relationships.
We secured funding to provide family food parcels during February half term and again during the Easter holidays. We contacted local schools and other organisations to identify families who were in need of support.
We held a successful Easter Fair with stalls and games attracting a large number of people into the centre and raising essential funds.
By the end of the financial period, using existing grant monies we were able to develop plans to start activities including:
A conversation café After School Club Exercise classes Luncheon Club
During this period we recruited two new trustees to join the Board and held a strategy and development day in March. We made a serious incident report to the Charity Commission on 31 January concerning the failure of the roof repairs and resignation of the previous trustees. We have undertaken a Governance Review with support from Community Action Bradford & District and have sought to address issues arising throughout the year and provided regular updates to the Charity Commission.
## **Financial review**
The net receipts for the year were £11,093, including net receipts of £9,848 on unrestricted funds and net receipts of £1,245 on restricted funds after transfers.
The trustees have reassessed the charity’s ability to continue for at least 12 months from the date that the accounts are approved and conclude that no material uncertainties exist that cast significant doubt on the charity's ability to meet its liabilities as they fall due. Like every organisation/charity we have the cost of living crisis to deal with but we are confident that we will get through this with the warm space grant provided by Bradford Council
## **Reserves policy**
The charity's free reserves, excluding fixed assets, at the year end were £26,454.
The trustees have agreed a reserves policy and have decided that they would look to maintain reserves which cover between three and twelve months running costs (which equates to between £7,450 and £29,800 based on 2021/2022 payments) as well as having sufficient monies available to cover periodic capital costs for the maintenance and repair of the Centre.

## Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Hainworth Wood Community Centre
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the CIO for the year ended 31 March 2022, which are set out on pages 5 to 9.
## **Responsibilities and basis of report**
As the charity trustees of the CIO you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').
I report in respect of my examination of the CIO's accounts as carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act. In carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1 accounting records were not kept in respect of the CIO as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2 the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **1 Accounting policies**
## **Basis of accounting**
The trustees have taken advantage of section 133 of the Charities Act 2011 and have prepared the accounts on a receipts and payments basis.
There has been no change to the accounting policies since last year.
No changes have been made to the accounts for previous years.
## **Taxation**
As a charity the organisation benefits from rates relief and is generally exempt from income tax and capital gains tax but not from VAT. Irrecoverable VAT is included in the cost of those items to which it relates.
## **Fund accounting**
Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity.
Restricted funds are subjected to restrictions on their expenditure imposed by the donor or through the terms of an appeal.
Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the accounts.
