Annual General Meeting 2025

CHAIRMANS & SECRETARYS TAR REPORT

We would like to start by expressing our sincere gratitude and recognise the volunteers behind the scenes, from the club committees, managers, coaches, and club volunteers whose hard work and dedication has once again ensured another successful season within our league.

We would like to take this opportunity to bid a fond farewell to our former chairperson, Stephen Bell, who stepped down in May for personal reasons. We Would like to honour and thank Steve for his years of dedicated service to the league and the wider football community and wish Steve the best for the future.

We are excited to welcome Karen Irving and Mark Hedley to the Board of the NFL, with both bringing invaluable experience in grassroots football.

Additionally, the Management Committee has bolstered its numbers with the appointments of William Brown and Alan Jarvis, two passionate advocates for grassroots football with over 40 years of involvement. We eagerly anticipate the journey ahead with them.

The league and clubs faced significant challenges at the start of the season due to changes in the whole game system and the introduction of the new competition portal. However, the league and clubs successfully navigated these early challenges to achieve a record season with over 20,000 players registered, with a record number of teams playing in the NFL.

A successful season on grass with all fixtures being completed in time, and due to the very mild winter we had a few leagues finished early with subsidiary league being set up for a few age groups. It was also a successful campaign for the central venues with record number of teams competing at all the age groups at central venues.

The league cup competitions were a great success this season with record attendance of spectators attending the finals. On the cup finals we would like to give a special thanks to the venues who supported the league in allowing us to use their venues. Morpeth Town, Wallsend BC, Leisure Utd, Newcastle University and Newcastle Utd Academy. We would also like to give a massive thank you to Keith Whisson for the fantastic programs that he provided for the finals which gave each player a fantastic keep’s sake of the final.

The league presentation events were met with overwhelming support, and the exemplary behaviour at these gatherings speaks volumes about our community's spirit.

As we look to the next season, we are committed to streamlining our administrative services and expanding our support for member clubs.

Thank you all for your unwavering contributions. Together, we are building a brighter future for local grassroots football!

Looking ahead, we will be part of the National FA's early adopter scheme for the 3v3 format, which will become mandatory from the 2026-27 season. This decision will give us the opportunity to help refine our approach to this new and challenging format when introduced.

Your Sincerely

Ian Coates Gary Trewick League Chairman League Secretary NFL Limited NFL Limited
