LIVERPOOL SICKLE CELL AND THALASSAEMIA SUPPORT GROUP TH TRUSTEES'ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 APRIL 2024 The trustees present their report and financial statements for the year ended 30th April 2024 for the Charitable Incorporated Organisation. The financial statements have been prepared in accordan(% with the charity's trust deed, the Charities Act 2011 and Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities p￿parIng their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland published (FRS 102) (effective 1st January 2019). OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES To support and advise those affected by Sickle Cell disorder and Thalassemia. We aim to educate and give information to the public to create awareness about this condition. We also aim to visit affected people in hospitals and act as an advocate for them in health and social car8. We also visit m8mb8rs' homes to offer support and informatb)n on dealing with minor symptoms which don't need hospitalization. We also support all individuals with the condition on how to cope with this debilitating condltlon including support for their carers too. We aim to organize trip5 and activities as a form of respite for the sufferer5 and their careers, that is if we have enough funding. Public Benefit The Trustees acknowledge that the Charitable Incorporated Organisation complies with Section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 regarding providing a public benefit. ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE We continue to have our monthly Group meeting, also we offer support and advice during these meetings. These meetings are held every Friday of the Month except in August and December, The trustee had their first zoom meeting on 1510512023 to discuss upcoming events as we did not have enough funding for the events. This was an urgent meeting to appeal to Award for all to re- assess our application for funding which In the end they agreed to fund us. We managed to update our information leaflet and added a scan code whlch will go direct to our just give account. Included on our leaflet is our social media platforms e.g. Twitter, Face Book and Instagram account. We managed to purchase our public liability insurance for the whole year In October 2023 We also managed to purchase a sum up contactless payment card reader. 1710612023 and 1810612023. Many members attended the Africa Oye Festival in Sefton Park. We shared a stall with Path lab and another organization. We had all our banners and leaflets, raising awareness of this debilitating condition to the Liverpool Community and visitors attending the festival. It was a very popular stall. Although our bank balance was very low, we managed to buy awareness pens, we ordered more leaflets from our supplier and engraved small bottle openers. It was a difficult year for the support group, our costs were paid off by Path lab., we only contributed £100 towards the cost of the venue canopy and chairs. Food arKI drinks were donated by all the Trustee and some members who could afford. Funmi Dairo the visa Chair of the group was appointed to take part in a U.K. Forum Hemoglobin Disorders Peer Review team over the coming year.

The assessments are taken by health care professionals and services users. 2310712023 Mandela Freedom Festival. Sabrina Manuel, Funmi Dairo and Funke Adeleke attended this festival spreading awareness for sickle cell. 0310612023 Was the first day of our awareness at Granby Street Market We managed to secure an awareness stall in Granby Street Market, This is every Saturday morning event in the summer months. We have also gained more members through migration to Liverpool and Merseyside. We hava a group what's app platfomi where members can ask qu8Stion8 and advice is given. Our group makes phone calls to members to offer some psychological support and social support. Hematology Specialist nurses are invited to our monthly meetings to give advice on the health of support group members with updates on new treatment and its effect on members. There is a lot of new developments within the Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Heath settings. Our members attended Black History month event for the Mersey Care NHS Trust 2110612023 Jazz on a Midsummers night. Fund Raising for Slckle Cell guest performer by Tyrone Lewis, Rebecca Loy Tony Alphonse and Hayli Kincade. it was a glamorous evening of big band jazz and Wavertree Community Choir. Our Trustee attended the event, and we had an awareness table at Ihe event. Members attended a night of Jazz Gospel Choir in Liverpool. The lady who organized it was raising awareness of Sickle Cell Disease. She donated money to our group, Roald Dahl Centre in Royal Liverpool Hospital. We had a table at the event with all our information and leaflets 0611212022 Mrs. Funmi Dairo met with John James Chair Sickle Cell Society, to discuss how this project was carried over to set up mentoring programs for our young adults with SCD in Liverpool. This project wa5 carried over to the next financial year which is 2024 and I will update on that. 2610812023 Sabrina Manuel who is one of our members was appointed as a new patient representative at the Alder Haye Children's Hospital. She is the patient's voice and representation at local and regional meetings. 0510912023 Dorothy Zack-williams our Patron and Aaron Sibanda one of our sickle cell patients had a live BBC Radio Merseyside interview. Brilliant speakers talking about our support group and Aaron talking about living with Sickle Cell and the challenges they face as patients. 1010912023 Rebecca Sibanda who is Vee's daughter In law and her dad Robert Pery run the Great North Run raising awareness and raising money for the Liverpool Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Support Group. 16J0912023 Kahli who is part of our group organized and perfomied at an Ever So Wonderful Variety Show. Dorothy Zack Williams attended and gave a speech about sickle cell and the support group and the importance of blood donation. 1811112023 North England Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre Sickle Cell held patient event. They were raising awareness on the latest treatment e.g. Gene therapy, patient Vol￿S, local support neiworks etc. Venencia Rayson, Dorothy Zack-williams and Sabrina Manuel attended the event. We had our awareness table with awareness material. It was a very infomiative and educational event. The attendee presented the information to the group at the end of November meeting. 0311212023 Natalie Nicholas and her son joined Santa Dash run fundraising for Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Support Group. 16h December 2023 the Support Group Trustees held a Christmas party for the Children and young Adults. It was well attended and the children enjoyed themselves. We had packs of books donated as Christmas presents by Liverpool author by the name of Natalie Reeves Billing 0210412024 Prof Tunde Zack Williams, Mrs. Funke Adeleke who is our event organizer, and her daughter Adeola Adeleke who is a patient herself visited Kim Johnson on behalf of the group. Adeola shared with her some personal and medical advice as a sickle cell patient. Focusing specifically on Gene Therapy decision lissue which was not authorized to be used as a treatment for Sickle cell patients. We managed to apply for internet online banking, which is now operational. FINANCIAL REVIEW Total income for the year was £13,914 (2023: £515), of which £10,000 (2023: £Nil) related to funding for projects upon which r8striclions are placed. Total expenditure for the year was £5,937 (2023.. £1,863), leaving a surplus for the year of £7,977 {2023.' deficit £1,348). At 301h April 2024 the Charitable Incorporated Organisation's reserves stood at £9,068 {2023.. £1,091) of which £8,862 (2023: £ Nil) represented restricted funds. RISK MANAGEMENT The maln risks to which the Charitable Incorporated Organisation's is exposed a5 identrfied by the trustees have been considered and systems have been established to mitigate those risks. RESERVES POLICY It is the policy of the Charitable Incorporated Organisation to maintain unrestricted funds at a level to cover three months, running costs should no further funding be received. As at the end of the financial year the unrestricted funds totalled £207. The Charitable Incorporated Organisation requires £152 for three months, running costs. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE We are planning on an event in Liverpool to raise awareness about Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia involving Alder Hey Children Hospital, Royal Liverpool Hospitsl. Professionals involving the specialist nurses, school nurses, social servicesl benefrt department, patient, carers and public.

LIVERPOOL SICKLE CELL AND THALASSAEMIA SUPPORT GROUP TA TRUSTEES'ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 APRIL 2024 We are planning to just do it on a local level in a small way to still be able to create awareness of Sickle Cell Disease. We are aiming to raise awareness on Africa Oye day from 1810612023- 1910612023. We are still planning to look for an office space which can be open to the public to obtain any information with the aim of employing volunteers to work there. We will be looking for funding for this. This is also on hold due to us trying to raise funding, we have a volunteer who will be helping us to look for funding for this purpose. We are now holding our monthly and trustee meeting virtually (Zoom), and face to face. We aim to continue with both faces to face and virtually meetings. As stated in our p￿VIouS report we commenced meetings from May 22, this was agreed by the Trustees. We are aiming to organize awareness sessions for professionals like GP, medical students, social workers and even schoolteachers to cr8ate understanding and to raise awareness of sickle cell and Thalassaemia disease in Liverpool. We plan on having a session at the Liverpool Medical School on Open Days. Venencia Rayson (chair) has already been in touch with the administrators from Liverpool Medical School. We have been pencilled in their diary for future events. Kristina, a clinical Psychologist from Alder Hey Chlldren's hospital is looking to work with our group regarding giving psychological support. This is still ongoing as many young adults do not attend this session. STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT Liverpool Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Support Group is a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), number 1181738 formed on 19th May 2015, under the terms of the Memorandum and Articles ofAssociation dated 15th April 2007 and amended 29th June 2012. The Board of Trustees also fomis the Executive Committee which appoints officers who are responsible for planning and implementing group activities. Accountlng Pollcleg Basls of Accountlng The accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recognised at cost or transaction value unless otherNise stated in the relevant note{s) to these accounts. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice.. Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) (SORP 2019) (effective 1st January 2019) and Charities Act2011. The accounts are prepared in sterling, which is the functional currency of the charity. Monetary amounts in these financial statements are rounded to the nearest £. The Charrtable Incorporated Organisation has tsken advantage of the provisions in the SORP for Charities applying FRS 102 Update Bulletin 1 not to prepare a Statement of Cash Flows. Golng concern At the time of approving the accounts, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the Charitable Incorporated Organisation ha5 adequate reserves to continue in operational 8XiStence for the foreseeable future. The Trustees have therefore adopted the going concem basis of accounting in preparing the accounts. Fund accounting Unr8Stricted funds are the Charltable Incorporated Organisation fre8 reserves available for the trustees to apply in accordance with the charity's objectives. Restricted funds are subject to specific restrictive conditions imposed by the donor. All restricted funds are accounted for as restricted income and expendrture for the purposes 18 charged to the fund. Income recognltlon All income is recognised once the charity has entitlement to the income, there is sufficient certainty of receipt and so it is probable that the income will b8 received, and the amount of income receivable can be measured reliably. Donations and legacies comprise of donations and general grants which are recognised in the accounts when received, with the exception of known legacies which are accounted for when their receipt is certain. Income from charitable activities is recognised on an accruals basis except for grants receivable, which a￿ recognised on the date on which their uncondilional payment bs confirmed by the donor. Fl¥ed Assets Capital expenditure is stated in the balance sheet at cost less accumulated depreciation. Depreciation is provided to write off the cost of each asset over its expected useful life. These are dealt with in the Statement of Financial Activities when payment has been approved by the charitable company. Cash and cash equivalents Cash and cash equivalents include cash in hand, deposits held at call with banks, other short-tenn liquid investments with original maturities of three months or less, and bank overdrafts. Flnancial instruments Th8 charity has elected to apply the provisions of Section 11 'Basic Financial Instruments, and Section 12 '0ther Financial Instruments 188ues' of FRS 102 to all of its financial instruments. Financial instruments are recognised in the charitys balance sheet when the charity becomes paty to the contractual provisions of the instrument.
