These fairs are open to members of the general public and the Society’s representatives supply information, advice, and literature on request. **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** ## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)** Grants are made to individuals or organisations on application to the trustees. These applications are judged by the Society’s Council of Administration on their individual merit. You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about: - policy on grantmaking; - policy programme related investment; - contribution made by volunteers. **TAR** March **2012** 3 ## Section D Achievements and performance **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** The Society continues with pattern of online and hybrid meetings enabling members and guests outside London to attend meetings more easily. As a consequence of delays due to the pandemic, Professor David Weaver was presented with the Society’s 2021 medal for research in Toronto in May 2023. In December 2023 Dr Tobias Capwell was presented with the Society’s 2022 research medal in London An Arms and armour essay competition was piloted in April and May 2023 at a Warwickshire school with the support of the teaching staff. A disappointing response showed that this method of engendering interest has become outmoded and no longer effective. The public, however, are able to access information on arms and armour via the Society’s Facebook page and this is becoming increasingly popular The Society was represented at the major antique fairs held in London. These fairs are open to members of the general public and the Society’s representatives supply information, advice, and literature. The Journal of The Arms and Armour Society continues to be published and distributed internationally. It is available to members and nonmembers on application; in U.K. copyright libraries, and other specialist libraries around the world. Single copies of papers are available to anyone via the Royal Armouries Library. During 2023 the Society launched a new bi-annual A4 sized Bulletin to replace it’s small quarterly newsletter. This includes accessible content complimenting our more scholarly Journal and has been well received by the community. The Society improved it’s membership application process during 2023 to make it more accessible.
