Objectives and activities Purpos88 of the Charity The Charity's objectives are to maintain the traditions of brass band nwsic; to develop, promote and improve the art and culture of music in all genres to people of all ages" and to advance the education of children and young people lo enable them to appr8cAte, leam, and participate in brass band music making. Activities The Band perfOS as a traditional British brass band. Its activities include concerts. both self- promoted and for which the band is engaged; performance in competitions; video and CD recordings. It also takes part in signfficant local events such as Hepworth Feast and the Holme Valley Remembrance Day service. Some concert performances are fundraising events for other Chities. Publlc boneflt The Charity and its tnjstees take care to conforn with the Charity Commission's guldanc8 on wblic benefrt requirements as set out in PB1 and PB2. Volunteer8 The trustees, managemenl committee and Ihe players undertake their respectlve roles without any financial compensation. Achievements and perforniance Concerts and •ngagoment8 The band staged and promoted an annual series of concerts at venues in and around the Holme Valley including A New Year Celebration Concert. A Mother's Day Concert (which helped to raise funds for the Holmbridge Church Organ Appear), a concert for Holmfirth Arts Festival and Ihe band's popular Christmas concert. The concerts were well supported, and the series was very well receNed by local communty. The band perfornd a lolnt concert in Huddersfield Town Hall with New Mill Male Voice Choir and Denby Dale Ladies, Choir, and performed at Ihe annual charity fundraising concert in Yeadon Town Hall for Aireborough Rotary Club. It took part in traditional H8PWOrth Feast celebrations; represented the vlllage of New Herrington at Dutham Miners Gala, and took part in the Holme Valley Service of Remembrance. The band also played carols for the Hepworth village Christmas service, and at the Christmas Eve slng in the village centre, as well as carolling in villages throughout th8 valley over the month of December. Contests Hepworth competed at the Yorkshire Regional ChaThpionships. the Spring Brass Band Festival, the British Open Brass Band Championships and the Scottish Open Championships as well as the summer season of march CteSts including the famous Whit Friday march contests.
The band enjoyed notable contest success finishing runner up at the Spring Festival and Scottish Open and taking prizes at a number of local march contests. Financial Review The chaiity's income is derived from a cort>ination of n collections. donations from corporate friends and public benefactors, lili fundraislng events. (ii)I grants and (iv) licket and CD sales at concerts and other events. Care is taken that ticket prices are set at affordable levels. Unrestrict8d income is spent on day-to-day tunning of the band, music director fees, staging and pronM)ting the band's annual concert series, instrurTW)t repair and replacement, upkeep of unrforms and purchase of new music. Christmas collections around tocal villages fonn a large part of the fvndraising activiti8s, and at Chrlstmas 2023 we raisod in excess of £4,(KK) towards the ongolng running costs. Grants were recelved from On8 Communty Foundation and Holme Valley Partsh Council which enabled the stsrt of worf(s to refurbish the ground floor of the bandroom buikling. A grant from One Communty Foundalion Longl8y Fann Fund will help support the band's "Music in the Holme Valley" 2024 concert series. The charFty does not have an official reserves policy. However. the trustees are satisfied that the band has sufficient unrestrfcted funds to meet any unexpected expendrture over th8 next 12 months. Structure. INDEPENDENf EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF HEPWOlml BAND I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 January 2024. The Hepworth Band trustees are responsible for the prepatstion of the accounts. The tteeS consider that audits are not required for their rcspective accounts for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Art 2011 (the 2011 Acc) and have elected for their accounts to be independently examiaed. It is my reSponsi111ty to: a) Examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Actr, and b) To follow the procedures laid down in the Gener Directions given by the Chariry ConUnionerS c) To state whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basts of Independent Examkns Statement My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Hepworth Band and a comparison of the accounts presented to those records. It a]so includes consideration of any unusual items or disdosures in the accounts. and seeking explanations from the Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in a full audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a "true and fair vierf and the repon is limited to those mattets set out in the statement below.
