**during the year**|| ||Trustees were able to complete the third of the four “Completing
the Job” development targets identified in October 2019. All the
storage units are now constructed. Many villagers and
organisations are benefitting from this facility, and over £5000 was
raised towards VH funds. This regular extra income will hopefully
prove pivotal in the Trustees’ aims to achieve the last remaining
development target, the task of forming a chair store and enlarging
and refitting the kitchen.
On the technical side, after a frustrating delay in 2022 due to
Openreach and then BT, we finally secured broadband access
across the entire building with XLN (now known as Daisy) in
January 2023. The intermittent problems with the hearing loop and
AV data communication have persisted throughout the year, but
progress has been made on both issues, thanks in the main to
David Watson and Pete Smith.
Villagers were challenged by the excellent Artsreach drama
“Nothing on Earth” and amused by “Canterbury Tales” As usual
there was also a fabulous Double Act show, this year “Agatha
Crusty and the Health Spa Murders”. There were also screenings
of two films during the Purbeck Film Festival.
Monthly “Soup ‘n Pud” lunches have proved to be a popular
addition to community life. On 6thMay 2023 the lunch was even
more special than usual, as villagers came together to celebrate
the King’s Coronation by watching it unfold on the big screen as
well as enjoying the magnificent meal.
Routine maintenance costs were higher than normal due in part to
the five-yearly check on the hall’s electrical system which was
followed by repairs to the electrical system due to a surge linked
