The Charity’s governing document is its constitution adopted 5 May 2015, and it is constituted as a charitable incorporated organisation. New trustees may be appointed to serve for a term of two years by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. Each of the trustees shall retire at the end of their term of appointment but shall be eligible for re-appointment.
The trustees review the skills and competencies required for the board of trustees, and where a requirement is identified they initiate a recruitment process. New trustees receive training from the existing trustees. There is no formal training programme.
The charity holds its bank account with Barclays Bank Plc, and has a donation facility with CAF Donate.
Regular trustee meetings are held, and the trustees met eight times during the year.
Objectives and activities
To promote for the benefit of the public the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of the Cuckmere Haven west beach and cliffs.
When planning and carrying out their activities, the charity trustees have complied with the duty in section 4 of the 2011 Charities Act, to have due regard to Public Benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission.
The trustees held discussions with various planning consultants resulting in the appointment of Whaleback Ltd, a chartered town planning consultancy, to co-ordinate the assembly of the necessary reports and designs to enable a fresh planning application to be submitted for a scheme to protect the eastern end of the Cuckmere Haven west beach and cliffs.
The charity advanced £1,200 to Celebrate Cuckmere to fund initial expenses for their fundraising event held in September. This was subsequently refunded to the charity. Celebrate Cuckmere was a great success and we received a vital donation from them of £10,000 in January 2023.
The charity’s website continued to attract donations from the public.
