Objectives and Activitses
Charitable obleets
The eharitable objects of The Henfrey Chantable Trust are su¢h charilable purposes for the publ￿ benefit as are
exclusively charitable according to the laws of Engiand and Wales by the provision of grants to charrties registered in
the United Kingdom.
Public bengfit
The trustees have referred lo the guKJar¢ce contained in the Charrty Commi$$ion's general guidance on public benefit
when reviewing the charity's purposes for the public benefit and in planning fijture activities.
Grant maklng
The charity supports a wide range of chartsble and voluntary org2nisations wrth an emphasis on educational, cultural
and environmental aciivibes of all kinds bul especially those based in North East England and South East Scotland.
However. the trustees have agreed as a matter of policy. the charity WTII not respond to unsolicited requests for
)Inancial support from third paty organisalions. Trust￿ are encouraged to tske an interest in the projects funded by
the charity-
A¢hievements and Perfomiance
Charftable activitigs
During the course of 2024 the charty made grants totalling £76.259 to a broad range of ¢haritsble organisalions.
Flnanclal Revi•w
Financial position
At 31 December 2024, the charty had an unrestricted fund balance of £478,475. The charity's cash held at bank at 31
December 2024 was £8,753 and the market value of rts investsnents was £470.587.
Invgstment polley and objectivos
The charity's deed of trust requires the trustees to take invesknent advice from a suitably qualified financial 8dvisor in
making investments. The Iruslees aim lo manage the chanty's general fund with a low risk profile and with the primary
objective of maintaining rts capital value in real terms before taknng into account donattons made to third parties by the
charity.
Reserve8 poIIcy
The Iruslees have adopted a long tenn 'spend down, strategy in managing the ¢hanty's general fvnd with the aim of
liquidating the bulk of the assets over a 12 to 15 year period.
Futur9 plans
The Iruslees intend to conts.nue their grant makin9 activities in line with the 'Objeth"ves and Athibes, set out above.
Strncture, Govemanee and Management
The charty is controlled by its goveming d¢xument. a of trust d*ed 11th Mar¢h 2015 and constitutes an
unincorporated charity.
Recruftment and appolntment of new trnstees
The trustees consider that they have the skills and experience appropriate for a charitable trust of this size. Mr John
Pennie was appointed as a trustee on 23ffj May 2022 to work alongside, Dr AW Henfrey who will hold office for life, Mr
JP Radgick and Mr JSR Swanson who have held office for one lemi of five years and have ag￿ed to serve for a
further five years.

Risk managernent
The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate
conlmls are in place to provide reasonabie assuran￿ against fraud and error. The tnjstees have made gn
assessment of the major risks facing the charity and are satisfied that there are policies in place to minimise these
risks.

1. Accounting Policles
Basis of preparing the financial ststements
The financial statements of the charty, which is a public entsty under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance
th the Charities SORP {FRS 1021 'Accountsng and Reporting by Charrties.. Statement of Recommended Practice
applicable to charities p￿paring their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standards applicable in
the UK and Republic ol I￿land (FRS 102}leffectt"ve 1 January 2015}'. Financial Reporting Stsndard 102 'The
Financial Reporting Stsndard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland, and charib.es Act 2011. The financial
statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
Income
l income is recognised in the Statement of Financkql Acttvrties On￿ the charity has ent￿ement to the funds, it is
probable that income will be receNed, and the amunt can rrEasured reliabty.
Expenditure
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as scon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the chari1
to that expenditure. it is probable that a transfer of e￿noMiC benefits will be required in settlement and the amoun1
of the obligab.on can be measured reliabty. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been
classified under headings that aggregate all costs related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attn'butei
to particular headings they have been all￿ated to activiti.es on a basis con$islent with the use of resources.
Grants offered subject to condibons which have not been mel at the year*nd date a￿ noted as a commitment but
not accwed as expenditure.
Taxation
