|||Working alongside professional artists,<br>members have developed their existing<br>acting skills and learnt a variety of new skills<br>to include mask making, acting with masks,<br>scriptwriting, storyboarding, stage etiquette,<br>manual dexterity skills, film making and<br>creative imagination. All activities have<br>boosted confidence, broadened horizons<br>and raised everyone’s aspirations.<br>Members have a strong sense of belonging<br>and members have made huge strides<br>socially that have decreased their social and<br>emotional isolation. Members have grown<br>into a warm, friendly and caring group who<br>have great pride in their achievements and<br>stage performances. We have made lasting<br>links with many community groups and<br>organisations and have performed live<br>shows and given presentations about our<br>work to these groups to raise awareness<br>about learning disability and promote<br>equality and diversity.<br>Members feel very positive and<br>accomplished about raising awareness<br>through their new, emotional, though<br>provoking DVD ‘Disability through the Lens<br>of Drama’. Providing the opportunity to self-<br>advocate about issues that are so important<br>to everyone with a learning disability and<br>how they want to be treated. Through<br>Leading Players members have more<br>confidence to speak up for themselves and<br>explain to others about their rights,<br>independence, choice and control of their<br>lives, breaking down barriers and bringing<br>about positive change for all.|

We are very fortunate<br>to have very keen and willing volunteer<br>helpers who assist in all aspects of our work<br>during weekly drama workshops, live<br>performances and events. They are<br>responsible for preparing refreshments,<br>cleaning up and general backstage duties to<br>include wardrobe, props, sound, lighting,<br>front of house and set construction.<br>We also have a group of volunteer<br>fundraisers who assist in various fundraising<br>activities throughout the year.|

## **1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES** 

## **Basis of preparing the financial statements** 

The presentation currency of the financial statements is the Pound Sterling (£). 

Financial statements are prepared on going concern basis. 

## **Income** 

All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably. 

## **Expenditure** 

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. 

## **Tangible fixed assets** 

Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life.

## **Taxation** 

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities. 

## **Fund accounting** 

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
