ANNUAL REVIEW 2020 - 21
- ollowing last year’s very successful performances to large audiences we started this year facing the massive challenge of con8nuing to provide workshops and support to our par8cipants under lockdown rules.
Our weekly support co-ordinator was furloughed in April as all our work moved online, but Inspiring Arts, our wonderful arts prac88oners who run the workshops, used their crea8ve ability to provide an online equivalent that maintained the inclusive and collec8ve ethos of Get Changed.
We had received a grant from Awards for All to run a project called “10 Minute Tales” this year. The project was to produce a series of 10 minute long performances to be presented at various fes8vals throughout the year. The aim being to present our work to a new, wider audience and to raise awareness of the skills and abili8es of people with a learning disability. With the agreement of Awards for All this project became “Digital Stories” and we were able to reallocate some of the funding to provide the technical equipment we needed.
Inspiring Arts worked via Zoom with our par8cipants in their group homes, or individually, so that everyone could make a digital piece of work that would then be shaped into a hosted show. Props and costumes were delivered to par8cipants and visits were made to the grounds of homes to record music and to film. Others were supported to produce their own films over Zoom. All of this was then edited together and shown in December - a remarkably entertaining & varied performance.
This year, sadly, we lost a longstanding par8cipant of Get Changed - David Skrpyczak. David loved performing and the audience loved him too. We’ll miss his great big smile and enthusiasm.
We said goodbye to our Administrator, Claire Johnson and welcomed her replacement Anita Nathwani. One of our trustees, Ka8e Sherjan leV and a new trustee, Von Mathieson, joined us.
HANK YOU!
We would like to thank everyone who helps to make Get Changed the wonderful organisa8on it is.
Firstly, the amount of crea8vity and work that Jules, Pete and all from Inspiring Arts put in to making this year something produc8ve and memorable for the par8cipants was outstanding, ably helped, when not on furlough, by Penny Marten Smith our support co-ordinator. Thank you all.
We are extremely grateful to the staff in the group homes for enabling our par8cipants to join in and to the parents who got involved and seemed to enjoy the experience!
We’re also grateful to our CEO and Administrator for their help and guidance, and to the Friends of Get Changed, the volunteers and trustees.
Big thanks also to our funders for the financial year ending March 2021.

Note to the accounts Core Income is from Participants fees which funds the majority of the cost of core activities provided there is full capacity. The core income from Participants Subscriptions was dramatically reduced in the financial year due to Participant numbers being below capacity. This was partially offset by reduced expenditure due to covid restrictions. However there is a need to maintain reserves to offset any loss of income due to any future reduction in the number of Participants in particular due to Covid, and to fund any shortfall in funding bids
