ThetrusteeswhoarealsodirectorsofthecharityforthepurposesoftheCompaniesAct2006,present their
reportwiththefinancialstatementsofthecharityfortheyearended31May2023.Thetrusteeshave adopted
theprovisionsofAccountingandReportingbyCharities:StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicable to
charitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordancewiththeFinancialReportingStandardapplicableinthe UK
and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
Weareanaward-winningRidingforTheDisabledGroupbasedinSouthwestLondonofferingequine therapy:
riding,carriagedriving,hippotherapyandstableyardactivitiestohundredsofchildrenandadults with
physical,sensoryandlearningdisabilities,plusthosewithmentalhealthissuesandthosefrom disadvantaged
backgrounds, to improve their mental and physical wellbeing.
Horseriding,orindeedjustbeingnearhorses,isproventobehighlytherapeuticforaperson'sphysical and
mental wellbeing.
ParkLaneStablesRDA,basedinTeddington,intheLondonBoroughofRichmonduponThames,isa friendly
andinclusiveRidingfortheDisabledAssociationgroup,offeringlocalchildrenandadultswithawide and
complexrangeofphysical,sensoryandlearningdisabilitiesandmentalhealthneedstheopportunityto ride
and care for horses and ponies in a safe and nurturing environment.
The Group's objectives uphold the RDA ethos, "It's what you CAN do that counts":
-Tomakeapositiveandtangibledifferencetodisabledperson'sfitness,corestrength,balance, confidence,
communication skills, enjoyment and general well-being through being with and/or riding horses.
-Topromoteinclusivityandpositivelyencourageparticipantstoachievesuccessandmaximisetheir potential
withina safeandsupportiveenvironment-whetherthatisjustlearningtosteera ponyunaided,ortaking part
inadditionalactivitiessuchasPonyClub,orcompetingathorseshows,sponsoredridesandlocalor national
competitions.
-Toputtheparticipantfirstandneverstopchallengingourselvestoimprovetheserviceandexperience we
offerthroughnewpioneeringinitiativesandprojectstomeettheever-changingneedsanddemandsof our
clients.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Significant activities
ThehorsesandponiesatParkLanearekind,honestandsteady,andarecarefullyselectedandtrained to
ensuretheyaresuitableforRDA riders.All sessionsarefacilitatedby qualifiedcoachesand/or physiotherapists.
WithallTrustees,colleaguesandvolunteersbeingreferencedandDBS-checkedasappropriate.Inthemain it
isourvolunteers(who leadtheponiesand/orsidewalk),makesureparticipantshaveallthesupportthey need
to achieve great things in a safe and nurturing environment.
Activities include:

Horse riding RDA sessions for groups and individuals on Ham Common and surrounding parkland
-
Carriage Driving
-
Hippotherapy (until December 2022) led by specialist physiotherapists
-
Equine therapy sessions (New on trial this year) with a qualified psychologist/counsellor
-
Stable management and yard activities including Wellbeing sessions
-
Tea with a Pony
-
Pony visits to schools and care homes
-
Pony Club activities including Summer Camp
-
Participation in RDA competitions and activities
Review of the year
ParkLaneStablesmovedfromitshomeinTeddingtontoitstemporarynewhomeatManorFarmin Petersham
TW10 on 1 June 2021.
Ourtemporaryvenuehasallowedustoexpandourprovisionandservices-offeringregularweekly activities
tovariousSENschools,charitiesandcommunitygroups.As a result,wewereableto,onceagain,increase the
numberofparticipantsaccessingourservicesthisyearandsignificantlyincreasethenumberof sessions/
activities.
Therewere1080participantsin2022-23(comparedwith687participantsin2021-22)-anincreaseof57% -
which we are delighted to have achieved.
.
Wecontinuedtobroadenourparticipationcriteriatoinclude,notjustthosewithdisabilities,butalsothose 'in
need' e.g. young carers, those with mental health issues, those from socially disadvantaged backgrounds etc.
Inall,weran6065sessionsin2023-23,comparedwith4023sessionsin2021-22-anincreaseof 51%,
demonstratingthebreadthandscaleofwhattheteamisdelivering.TheexecutiveandTrustees are
extremely proud of this achievement.
We alsosawanincreaseincarriagedrivingparticipationin2022-23with208participantsand349sessions. This
compareswith111participantsand270sessionsin2021-22(anincreaseof87%participationand 29%
sessions).TheTrusteesweredelightedthatoneofourcarriagedrivingparticipantsrepresentedPark Lane
StablesRDAattheWindsorHorseShowcompetitionandanotherparticipantqualifiedfortheRDA National
Championships.
Achievements in 2022-23
- Over 500 friends and visitors came to our Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebration event on 2 June 2022
- Founder and Managing Director, Natalie O'Rourke's book, Only Heroes and Horses, was published.
-OurvolunteerswereawardedtheprestigiousQueensAwardforVoluntaryService.Twoofour volunteers
were invited to Buckingham Palace to receive the award in May 2023.
-NatalieO'Rourke,wasawardedanMBEforherworkforthecharityandthelocalcommunity.Theaward was
presented by HRH Prince William at Windsor Castle in December 2022.
-Arecordnumberof15participantsqualifiedtorepresentParkLaneStablesattheRDA Regional
Championshipsand9ofthemwentontotheRDA2023NationalChampionships,bringinghomeabagful of
rosettes for Countryside Challenge, Show Jumping, Carriage Driving and Dressage competitions.
-ParkLaneStableswasselectedasoneof18LondoncharitiesfortheJubileeTreePlantingCeremony in
March 2023.

adversity,including:PonyClubUKConferenceinBelfast,RDACoachingConferenceinWarwickshire, RAC
ClubinEpsom,theLondonInternationalHorseShowatExCelandtheRacingTogetherIndustryDayat Ascot
to name a few, alongside our ambassadors Philippa and Louis.
-We visitedtheChelsaFlowershow,AscotChampionsDay,theLondonInternationalHorseShowand Richard
Hannon's racing yard to name a few.
-Weattractedlotsofhighprofilevisitorstothestablestoo,including:BrentfordFCplayers,Savills, McVities,
Spillers, the Sunday Times, Equine America, and fact-finding dignitaries from China and South Korea.
Public benefit
Inshapingtheobjectivesfortheyearandplanningtheactivities,thetrusteeshaveconsideredthe Charity
Commission's guidance on public benefit, including the guidance on public benefit and fee charging.
Volunteers
AllRDAVolunteersundergoavigorousrecruitmentprocesswhichincludes:twosatisfactoryreferences, an
enhanced DBS check (if aged 16 or over) and Green Card training before they start volunteering.
Wereceived205enquiriesfrompeoplewhowantedtobecomeavolunteerduring2022-23and106of these
progressedthroughtherecruitmentandtrainingprocesstobecomefully-fledgedvolunteers..Wecontinue to
neednewvolunteersinordertocopewiththedemand,soweholdregularrecruitmentdrives,with an
emphasisonensuringthereisagoodfit-matchingvolunteermotivationwiththeneedsofour wider
community.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE Charitable activities
Save Our Stables Campaign
InDecember2020theownerandlandlordoftheParkLanepremisesinTeddingtongaveuswritten notice,
statingthatourleasewasnotgoingtoberenewedashewishedtoselltheproperty.Ifwecouldnotraise the
moneytobuytheproperty,thenwewouldhavetoleavethepremiseson31May2021,beingtheenddate of
our lease.
OnNewYear'sEveofDecember2020,welaunchedourSaveOurStables(SOS)Campaign via
Crowdfunder.comwiththeseeminglyimpossibletargetofneedingtoraiseatleast£1Mindonationsby 25
February2021.Miraculously,by18February2021wehadraisedaroundhalfamillionpounds,whichwas an
unbelievablefeat,butifwedidnotachievethe£1Mtargetby thedeadlineof25February,our"All or Nothing"
Campaignmeantthatallpledgeshadtobereturned.Then,on19February2021,BBCBreakfastrana long
featureintroducedbyRobBrydonaboutthestablesandtheimportantworkwedo,preandduring the
pandemic.ABBCfilmcrewcametothestablestointerviewNatalieO'Rourkeourfounderand current
ManagingDirectoranda selectionofourparticipants.Inordertomeetourhorsesandwithinthirtyminutes we
hadmeltedthenation'sheartsandthedonationscamefloodinginfromallovertheworld.We exceeded our
£1Mtargetwhilststillonair,sothecameracrewcamebacktothestablestocelebratethe fantastic
outcome.
Wethenexperiencedaperiodofuncertaintyandsomewhatofarollercoasterridewithourappointed legal
teamandTrusteestryingtonegotiatethepurchaseoftheTeddingtonproperty.Itwasnotaneasy process.
We werehopingtohavepurchasedthestablesbeforeourleaseexpiredbutthiswasnottobe,soon31 May
2021wevacatedParkLaneandmovedtoournewtemporarylocationofManorFarminHam. The
Teddington stables and connected premises were finally purchased in December 2021.
TheTrusteesrecognisedthatthepremisesrequireda significantdegreeofrefurbishmentbeforewecould take
occupation, which would require planning and public consultation.
InpursuitofourcommitmenttobeingaresponsibledeveloperofourcommunityfacilityinTeddington, over
thepastyearwededicatedsignificanteffortstoengagewiththelocalauthorityandwiderstakeholders to
ensureatransparentandinclusiveapproachforourplanningapplication.Weinitiatedtheprocesswith an
outlineplanningapplicationtothelocalauthorityand,atthesametime,involved comprehensive
consultationsanddiscussionsaimedataligningourprojectwithcommunityneedsandexpectations.A series
ofmeetingswereheldwithvariousstakeholders,includingresidents,localbusinessesand community
organisationsallowingustogathervaluablefeedbackandinsights.Followingthisphase,we diligently
preparedandsubmittedourdetailedapplicationwithanemphasisonseekingtomeettheneedsof our
existing environment and addressing concerns raised during the consultation process.
Thisinclusiveapproachnotonlyensureswefollowedregulatoryrequirementsbutalsoreflectsthe collective
aspirationsandconcernsofthelocalcommunity.Weremaincommittedtofosteringthis collaborative
approachaswemoveforward.Weweredelightedtoreceiveplanningpermissionon23June2023.At the
timeofwriting,theTrusteeshopetobeabletoreturntoTeddingtoninlate2023orearly2024,subject to
costing and the actual build itself.
OurtemporarynewhomeatManorFarminHamisstillwithintheLondonBoroughofRichmond,sonottoo far
forourparticipantstotravelto.ThefacilitiesatManorFarmarefantastic,soithasgivenusaperfectbase to
continue our work whilst the purchase and refurbishment of the Teddington property is ongoing.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Our Trustees
Wehavechangedmateriallyoverthelastfewyears-goingfromaverysmallcharitywhich,on occasion,
struggledtosurvivefinancially,tooneofthemostwell-knownandin-demandcharitiesinthesouthof England
withourrangeofservices.Asaresult,thecorporaterequirementsoftheCharityandTrustees increased
significantly.Changesneededtotakeplaceinordertoreflectthelevelofexpertisethatwasnowrequired to
take the charity forward.
TheTrusteesandexecutivehavefocusedondevelopingourexpertiseinlaw,marketing,fundraising and
communication.Wemeetatleastsixtimesayearasagrouptoensureweoptimisetheserviceswe provide.
We held our second AGM on 29 March 2023 at Teddington Rugby Club.
WesaidfarewelltothreeTrustees:RachelMaundon20/12/23;RuthKellyattheAGMon29/3/23;and Kath
Dillonon10/5/23.We wouldliketoplaceonrecordourthankstoallthreefortheirserviceandcommitment to
Park Lane Stables, and especially to Kath Dillon who had served the charity for many years.

HavingsatisfiedmyselfthattheaccountsoftheCompanyarenotrequiredtobeauditedunderPart16of the

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
Thefinancialstatementsofthecharitablecompany,whichisapublicbenefitentityunderFRS 102,
havebeenpreparedinaccordancewiththeCharitiesSORP(FRS102)'AccountingandReporting by
Charities:StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccounts in
accordancewiththeFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland (FRS
102)(effective1January2019)',FinancialReportingStandard102'TheFinancialReporting Standard
applicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland'andtheCompaniesAct2006.Thefinancial statements
have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
Income
All incomeisrecognisedintheStatementofFinancialActivitiesoncethecharityhasentitlementto the
funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
Expenditure
Liabilitiesarerecognisedasexpenditureassoonasthereisalegalorconstructive obligation
committingthecharitytothatexpenditure,itisprobablethatatransferofeconomicbenefitswill be
requiredinsettlementandtheamountoftheobligationcanbemeasuredreliably.Expenditure is
accountedforonanaccrualsbasisandhasbeenclassifiedunderheadingsthataggregateall cost
relatedtothecategory.Wherecostscannotbedirectlyattributedtoparticularheadingsthey have
been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Tangible fixed assets

The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

Hire purchase and leasing commitments
