ThehorsesandponiesatParkLanearekind,honestandsteady,andarecarefullyselectedandtrained to
ensuretheyaresuitableforRDA riders.All sessionsarefacilitatedby qualifiedcoachesand/or physiotherapists.
WithallTrustees,colleaguesandvolunteersbeingreferencedandDBS-checkedasappropriate.Inthemain it
isourvolunteers(who leadtheponiesand/orsidewalk),makesureparticipantshaveallthesupportthey need
to achieve great things in a safe and nurturing environment.

- Pony Visits to hospitals, schools, care homes and people's homes.

## **`Review of the year`**

ParkLaneStablesmovedfromitshomeinTeddingtontoitstemporarynewhomeatManorFarmin Petersham
TW10on1June2021.Forthefirstmonthinthenewvenue,activitieswerelimitedduetoCovid-19 restrictions
and we were unable to operate fully until we had acquired a new licence.

However,oncetheseissueswereresolved,thenewvenueenabledustoexpandourprovision- offering
regularweeklyactivitiestovariousSENschools,charitiesandcommunitygroups.Asaresult,wewereable to
doublethenumberofparticipantsaccessingourservicesthisyear(comparedtopre-Covidrecords) and
significantly increase the number of sessions/activities.
```

Therewere687participantsin2021-22.TheprevioustwoyearswereaffectedbyCovidwithonly 263
participants in 2020-21 and 266 in 2019-20. Our pre-Covid participant record was 346 participants in 2018-19
```

Webroadenedourparticipationcriteriatoinclude,notjustthosewithdisabilities,butalsothose'inneed' e.g.
young carers, those with mental health issues, those from socially disadvantaged backgrounds etc.
```

Inall,weran4023sessionsin2021-22.Ifwecomparethiswithourpre-Covidactivities(2937sessionsin 2018-19),
this represents a 37% increase in activities/sessions something the team and trustees are hugely proud about.
```
```
Wealsosawasignificantincreaseincarriagedrivingparticipationin2021-22with111participantsand 270
sessions.Duringthetwopreviousyearstherehadonlybeen25carriagedrivingparticipants.RDA sessions did
notbeginuntilOctober2021dueRDACovidrestrictions,however,wewereabletooffercarriagerides to
non-disabledvisitorsfromRichmonduponThamesSchoolinJuly.Oneofourparticipantsqualifiedforthe RDA
RegionalChampionshipsandParkLaneStablesalsowontheCarriageDrivingDisabledGroupofthe Year
Award 2022.

AllRDAVolunteersundergoavigorousrecruitmentprocesswhichincludes:twosatisfactoryreferences, an
enhanced DBS check (if aged 16 or over) and Green Card training before they start volunteering.

TheSaveOurStablesCampaignresultedinover150enquiriesfrompeoplewhowantedtobecome a
volunteerassoonasthestablesreopenedpostcovidintheSpringof2021.We knew(fromthenumberof new
enquirersonourWaitingList)thatwewouldneedmanynewofvolunteersinordertocopewiththe demand,
sowebegana recruitmentdrive.DuringApril andMay2021,wetrained30newvolunteers(and subsequently,
between June and November 2021, we have trained another 60 new volunteers).

## **`ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE Charitable activities Save Our Stables Campaign`**

InDecember2020theownerandlandlordoftheParkLanepremisesinTeddingtongaveuswritten notice,
statingthatourleasewasnotgoingtoberenewedashewishedtoselltheproperty.Ifwecouldnotraise the
moneytobuytheproperty,thenwewouldhavetoleavethepremiseson31May2021,beingtheenddate of
our lease.
```

OnNewYear'sEveofDecember2020,welaunchedourSaveOurStables(SOS)Campaign via
Crowdfunder.comwiththeseeminglyimpossibletargetofneedingtoraiseatleast£1Mindonationsby 25
February2021.Miraculously,by18February2021wehadraisedaroundhalfamillionpounds,whichwas an
unbelievablefeat,butifwedidnotachievethe£1Mtargetby thedeadlineof25February,our"All or Nothing"
Campaignmeantthatallpledgeshadtobereturned.Then,on19February2021,BBCBreakfastrana long
featureintroducedbyRobBrydonaboutthestablesandtheimportantworkwedo,preandduring the
pandemic.ABBCfilmcrewcametothestablestointerviewNatalieO'Rourkeourfounderand current
ManagingDirectoranda selectionofourparticipants.Inordertomeetourhorsesandwithinthirtyminutes we
hadmeltedthenation'sheartsandthedonationscamefloodinginfromallovertheworld.We exceeded our
£1Mtargetwhilststillonair,sothecameracrewcamebacktothestablestocelebratethe fantastic
outcome.
```

Wethenexperiencedaperiodofuncertaintyandsomewhatofarollercoasterridewithourappointed legal
teamandTrusteestryingtonegotiatethepurchaseoftheTeddingtonproperty.Itwasnotaneasy process.
We werehopingtohavepurchasedthestablesbeforeourleaseexpiredbutthiswasnottobe,soon31 May
2021wevacatedParkLaneandmovedtoourincrediblenewtemporarylocationofManorFarminHam. The
TeddingtonstablesandconnectedpremiseswerefinallypurchasedinDecember2021.Beforewe returned
thetrusteesrecognisedthatthepremisesrequireda significantdegreeofrefurbishmentbeforewecould take
occupation.Whichwouldrequireplanningand publicconsultation.Thisremainson-going.Thetrusteeshope to
be able to return to Teddington in late 2023 or early 2024 subject to planning, costing and building.
```

OurlovelytemporarynewhomeatManorFarminHam,isstillwithintheLondonBoroughofRichmond,so not
toofarforourparticipantstotravelto.ThefacilitiesatManorFarmarefantastic,soithasgivenusa perfect
base to continue our work whilst the purchase and refurbishment of the Teddington property is ongoing.

2020-21wasayearofupheavalandseismicchangeforthecharity.InFebruary2021,ParkLane Stables
changedfrombeingasmallcharitywhichonoccasionsstruggledtosurvivefinancially.Tooneofthe most
well-knownandindemandcharitiesintheUK.Withover£1.3Mindonationsbeingreceived(pregiftaid) from
thesuccessfulcampaign.Asaresult,thecorporaterequirementsoftheCharityandTrustees increased
significantly.Withchangesneedingtotakeplaceinordertoreflectthelevelofexpertisethatwas now
required to take the charity forward.

Invitedguestsspecialisinginbusiness,law,marketingandcommunicationsjoinedourTrusteeMeetings from
March2021toseethroughthepurchaseoftheParkLane,Teddingtonpremisesandassociated fundraising,
communicationsandbusinesscontinuityissuesthatarose.Subsequently,someofthesespecialistshave now
becomeTrusteesofthecharity:NeilRodford,PaulBaines,RachelMaund(whoresignedon20th December
2022) and Ruth Kelly.

Wesaidfarewelltotwolong-standingTrustees:RichardSharpinApril2021andJayneEllisinJuly2021and we
wouldliketothankthemforalltheirhardworkanddedicationtoParkLaneStablesoverthemanyyears they
supported the charity.
