One of the charity's objects is to promote the effi¢Èency of the police. the
administration of the law and good.citizenship and greater public
part￿1Pat￿ in the p￿VentIon and solution of crirrE, in particular in
rdth.on to counterferting and consumer protection. To start achieving
some of thrs, the dwty is working a n17￿ concept to:
1. Dissuade the general publtc from purchasing o)uAterfertlfake products
and items.
2. Educale the gener￿ pubtic on the dangers of acquiring (x)unterfeitlfake
products and items.
3. Infomi the general public on hcw they trw prot8ct themselves from
becoming viclims of fraud.

achievements of the charlty
during the year
The charity has named its concept The Fake Shop.. ￿8t is The Fake
Shop? Wrth so many High Street shops closing down there isn't a
shortage of potential sites to run The Fake Shop Prq&t.
In essence. the tharity proposes to put back into use empty stores in
towns and Cit￿$. ¥￿th the partiCipat￿n of k¢al trading standards. pollce,
Focal aulhorities and other stake hoklers. and to fumish Ihem wlth basic
shop frttings.
On display the customer will find a vast as5ortr￿nt of itèms. but not
ordinary rtems. Counterfert produ(#s will be on sh¢y4¥ as if they were for
sale but instead of a price lag they will carry warnings. The wamings will
help oonsumers disc¢)ver truths about counlerfeit products and consumer
scarns.
In and around the Shops the consumer will also be able to read story
boards. for example, telling of how crlminals. profrt and reinvest pr¢)ceed8
of sales in further eJiminal activits"es, or about a seven year old child who
was sadty killéd by a fake phone charger. Inf0M￿tIVe leafiets will be
handed out to all m￿nbe1S of the publ￿.
They can t* producl specific rf in the Borough Council area there 18
particular problem with fake Gosmetic products, for example. Trained
volunteers will be on hand to diswss relative I￿e$ with th8 public and
gfve advice where appropriale. The charity has trialled rts first Fake Shop
wrth resounding success. The public was most enlhusiastic'and showed
genuine interest as did the kxal auth(xty and polic*.
