Section D
Achievements and performance
One of the chanty's objects is
to promote the efficiency of the
poli￿, the administration of the
law and good citizenship and
greater public participation in
the prevention and solution of
crime, in particular in relation
to counterfeiting and consumer
protection. To start achieving
some of this, the charity is
working on a novel concept to:
1. Dissuade the general public from purchasing
counterfeivfake products and rtems.
2. Educate the
general public on the
dangers of acquiring
counterfeitlfake
products and items.
3. Infom the
general public
on how they may
protect
themselves from
becorning
victims of fraud
Summary oflhe main
achievements of the charity
during the year
The charity has
named its concept
'The Fake Shop".
Vthat is The Fake
Shop?
Wrth so many High Street
shops closing down there isn't
a shortage of potential sites to
run The Fake Shop Project. In
essence, the charty proposes
to put back Into use empty
stores in towns and cities, with
the participation of local
trading standards, police, local
authorities and other stake
holders, and to furnish them
with basic shop fittings.
On display the customer will
find a vast assortment of
items, but not ordinary items.
Counterfeit products will be on
show as rf they vEre for sale
but instead of a price tag they
will carry warnings.
Thewamingswill help
consumers discover truths
about counterfett products and
consumer scams.

Section D
Achievements and performance
In and around the shops the consumer will also be able to read
story boards. for example,
telling of how criminals profft
and reinvest proceeds of sales
in further criminal a￿1VitieS, or
about a seven year old child
who was sadly kilied by a fake
phone charger. Informative
leaflets will be handed out to all
members of the publsc.
They can be product spectfic rf in
the Borough Council a￿a there is
a particular problem with fake
cosmetic products, for example.
Trained volunteers will be on
hand to discuss relative issues
with the public and give advice
where appropriate.
The charity has trialled its first
Fake Shop with resounding
success. The public was
most enthusiastic and
showed genuine interest as
did the local authority and
police.
ITV and BBC both featured
the initiative on their
respectple news channels, as
did radio stations and the
press.
