Alice Sponsored Walk – Symonds Yat – July 2022
As always, Chris and Elaine organised another great day out and one of our best fundraisers. Of course, it had to be one of the hottest days of the year which meant plenty of ice lollies and cold drinks at the end!!!
We had some special guests: Jessica’s lovely neighbours, Gagan and Baljeet Dhillon, who walked while Elaine and Jess looked after the children; Sonia on holiday enjoying the British summer and Ludmila who needed some relief having just arrived from Ukraine. So, a good day for everyone, well supported by generous folk from Trinity and Community House

Other events
Our village, Kamoanna, turned out in strength to support their less fortunate countrymen suffering from last June’s devastating floods in Sindh.
They sewed and collected much needed clothing and the Pastor, and his colleague travelled many hours to deliver them together with food supplies – all done in the name of The Alice Foundation. Our building became the support hub for the mission.

We have been busy spreading the word - letting people know about the story and achievements of the Alice Foundation.
Our “spread the word” team: Rakhel, Iven, Marilyn and Susan, in varying combinations, have spoken to the University of the Third Age (U3A), St. Julian’s Methodist Church, the Rotary Club and Ponthir Women’s Institute. We are willing to do the same with any organisations which will invite us.
As you can see from the list, Rakhel and her catering volunteer team have been very busy - in fact, have become the “go to” option for a tasty buffet for many organisations around Newport.
These organisations are so important to us for their ongoing support – and this would not happen if the quality of what the team delivers was not consistently great.

TIven visited on his own in May
Congratulations! The end of year results were very good and all students were able to progress to the next class. Well done. Iven was particularly struck by how quickly the young people had taken on board the behaviours, manners and attitudes required for school life.
The successful students looking so smart in their school uniform.

Alice Foundation - Light for Life
Hallelujah……we did it. Whilst the church has been in use for some years now, Covid delays hit the opening of the school, but in March 2022 the school opened and we are delighted to report the students and teachers have had a most successful year.
In the new year, the final push was made, plumbing, electrics etc. were put in place and they could open in March 2022. You will have seen from the pictures that there are large student numbers. The Pastor and Headteacher with their staff, a mix of paid and volunteer teachers, have been delighted with the enthusiasm the young people.
In November 2022 Rakhel and Ivan visited and were really heartened with the progress being made. They were welcomed both at the school and by the church. Unfortunately, Rakhel became poorly over there and, even when she returned home, she was not well for some time. The next visit shown in the pictures is of when Ivan spoke to a gathering in the church and we are so pleased to see how lovingly the church has been decorated.
All of this has been achieved through your support. We can sigh with relief; the building phase of the project is completed. Our challenge now is to help the staff and volunteers over there maintain stability so they can be confident of the future. We knew from the beginning we were in for the long haul……..quick fixes are easy…….but you, we, are staying committed to the job Ivan and Rakhel asked of us and with God’s help, we will be changing lives and releasing potential for many years to come.
The Charity relies on a huge number of family and friends of Rakhel and Iven and those of other trustees and advisors who embrace the ethos of Alice. We would like to thank everyone who has donated money to this cause and all who have volunteered and given their time to make all this achievable. All trustees and volunteers have worked exceptionally hard. Siama and Marilyn must be thanked for their work with taking and/or managing the wonderful bank of photographs we have. Thanks to John for auditing our accounts. We continue to receive help from folk connected in one way or another to Community House, Eton Road and we are particularly thankful for the continued support from Trinity Methodist; we are very mindful of the fact that we are no longer one of their designated charities, yet Cynthia and Roger are joined by so many others of that church in working for the cause. I think they have raised more money than ever this year.
Rakhel, Iven and all the Trustees thank you most sincerely for your continuing support.
