Christmas gifts for the children thanks to The Alice Foundation

1

As well as distributing gifts at Christmas at the centre, Pastor Amir and colleagues went out into the village to make sure all the children received a present.

The building is almost complete

What an achievement! Under the supervision of the Pastor and the retired volunteer Head teacher, the school opened in March, the beginning of the academic year in Pakistan. With a mixed team of volunteers and paid staff, classes began. What a wonderful thing for two small faith groups – here and in Pakistan – to have made happen.

## School Starts

Classes sorted, registration done, the work of the school begins.

Cheerful faces tell it all. From the little ones to their older siblings, a real enthusiasm for learning is obvious.

But when it comes to lining up who is to be first in line? Herding cats would be easier!

Alice Sponsored Walk - Porthkerry Park – Sept. 2021

Well, we made it. Flooded out on the first date, we nevertheless had a fun hour or two and a delicious picnic while sheltering under the umbrellas of the café. Then, on a bright day a few days later, we went for it. Yes, challenging but super rewarding and, as every year, a great contribution to the fund raising. Thank you, walkers, sponsors and caterers!!!!

International Women’s Day at the Riverfront

The reputation for a great lunch from Alice Foundation workers has become really well known.

Once again we were invited to the Riverfront to provide some wonderful food.

International Women’s Day is a fabulous event and our stall was able to showcase the project and encourage others to join.

Garden Tea Party at Rakhel and Iven’s

Oh! At last – hurrah! A chance to get together in the sun instead of on Zoom.

We had a lovely “posh tea” at Rakhel and Iven’s with a great group of Alice workers and their friends. We are particularly glad to be including this photograph (above) as we remember our dear friend and early, constant Alice supporter, Dr Claire Watkins.

This Annual General Meeting could not be more exciting. The work and the fundraising of the last six years have come to fruition. This fundraising will continue as we endeavour to provide a small but regular contribution to the church and school as they face the future.

We spoke last year about how important the building had been for the village during the prolonged difficulties of the pandemic. And, through making presentations to various groups, we have been given donations and made further contacts in Pakistan, specifically the Polio and TB vaccination programmes.

So here we are – able to hand over the church and school, confident that at the Pakistan end we have committed and knowledgeable people taking things forward. Whilst we will always be happy to advise when asked, what we will not be doing is undertaking the legal responsibilities of the Alice Foundation building and its management.

In another year impacted by Covid, fundraising events have had to be carefully planned, but as the world begins to live with the virus, we look forward to more social events in the coming year: tea parties, shared meals and maybe another wonderful Bollywood evening.

As always, this past year of fundraising has relied on a huge number of family and friends of myself and Iven, the Trustees and Advisors together with the church membership at Trinity and Community House. The spirit of Alice is honoured in everything they all do, and we would like to thank everyone who has donated money to this cause and all who have volunteered and given their time to make all this achievable and a success.

I must thank all the above but also want to mention my dear Iven who has project managed the building, Chris and Elaine for their work on the annual sponsored walk, Marilyn for the photographic, accountancy and I.T. work she does, Cynthia and Roger for the commitment and hard work, John for the accounts auditing, Susan for supporting me in presentations and my family and friends.

The faces in the photos and videos tell such a successful story. As I said earlier, we plan to send a modest but regular contribution to add to the fundraising undertaken in Pakistan. This will be important for the management to be confident of at least some of the ongoing costs e.g. to keep staff paid and the building maintained. So, to that end, may we urge you, if you have not already done so already, to make a regular standing order to the Foundation. The heartfelt thanks have been expressed by all our friends in Pakistan.
