Well, dear friends and supporters, here we are again. The novelty has worn off Zoom meetings and we would so much like to be having our tea and biscuits, watching the slides and chatting before getting down to the business of another Annual General Meeting. It is testament to you all that even if you are not joining this year’s Zoom, you will be reading this, interested and enthusiastic about the good work which has been going on since we were last together. That good work has been conducted in memory of, and in the spirit of, Rakhel’s Mum Alice, who supported with whatever resources she could, in this area, where she had been midwife. If we are fortunate enough to be meeting new supporters today, we bid you welcome and tell the story of this second year of Covid challenges through these images below. We would also direct you to our website **www.alicefoundation.co.uk**

and our Face Book page **Alice Foundation - Light for Life.**

How is the building progressing? Working on the gates.

Due to Covid, the situation of the almost finished school building has changed little; again we are on hold till “normal” conditions prevail. However, as Christians, supporting a mixed Christian and Muslim community, we can report that the building continues to be a much used centre supporting the whole village through these difficult times. As we commented last year, lockdown and local Covid restrictions have worsened the already great hardship in the village. The Trustees met and agreed these extraordinary circumstances warranted a gesture of Christian solidarity so we sent a monetary contribution to ease some of the challenges over Christmas.

The Christian community is using the church building and the photographs below remind us that just a few years ago, services like this would have been conducted outdoors in unpredictable weather conditions. We, you, have achieved much - thank you.

Naturally, our fund-raising has looked very different this year: our gratitude to all who walked as individuals.

## - Alice Sponsored Walk 2020

This year due to Covid rules people/families had to walk on their own.

_Cynthia said_ ‘Roger and I completed our walk throughout September. We were lucky enough to be able to go to North Wales for twelve nights and Southerndown for two nights. We also walked to Caerleon to see their crochet garden plus our daily walks with the dog.’

Our message remains as it did last year: the Charity relies on a huge number of family and friends of Rakhel and Iven and those of other trustees and advisors who embrace the ethos of Alice. We would again like to thank everyone who has donated money to this cause and all who have volunteered and given their time to make all this achievable and a success. All trustees and volunteers have worked exceptionally hard. Siama and Marilyn must be thanked for their work with taking and/or managing the wonderful bank of photographs we have. The website created last year by Wayne Farmer and Amy and Glen Morris has been well used, again, thank you. We continue to receive help from folk connected in one way or another to Community House, Eton Road including our many Muslim supporters and we are particularly thankful to Brian Selby for collecting the ‘2p to pee’ from the Tuesday Lunch Club and others to pay for the toilets. For the continued

support from Trinity Methodist, where Cynthia and Roger are joined by so many others of that church in working for the cause – many, many thanks.

Finally, we want once more to acknowledge the support, advice and hands-on work we have received from Jane Shatford of the Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations (GAVO) over the years.

Jane has just retired from her post. We will be just one of many organisations grateful for her enthusiasm and expertise. She has been a willing helper to us and we will always be grateful for the firm footing she helped create for this project.

Many thanks to all, Rakhel Smith—Founder Trustee

Finally, we send our good wishes to Pastor Amir and all his volunteers and we leave you with some images of the children for whom this project was created.
