## **Chairman’s Report Respite at Home Volunteers West Mid Beds & Ivel Valley Annual General Meeting – Monday 8[th] November 2021**

Welcome to another West Mid Beds and Ivel Valley AGM our 21[tt ] and our 22nd year as a charity. This last 12 months has continued to be a unique experience globally but in particular for everyone involved in the community providing care and support to those with life limiting illnesses. As you will remember from last year’s AGM we have had to re-think how we can provide care and support to our clients and their carers within the government guidelines, ensuring the safety of all. As we are unable to visit our client homes we have been keeping in contact with the clients and their carers by regular phone calls. However referrals have been affected during the pandemic which Nicola will cover in her report.

Our partnership with Garden House Hospice and Isobel Hospice continues, we are involved in regular team meetings covering the management of our joint project, steering groups to maintain direction and consistency across the teams. The meetings are attended by a selection of committee members and Volunteers. The good news is together with Garden House and Isobel we are submitting a proposal for further funding to the Big Lottery to enable our charities to recover and continue to grow as we emerge from the pandemic.

Although we have had a number of changes since our last AGM, through the dedication of our Volunteer Manager and our Volunteers, our clients have continued to receive a high level of support throughout the year. We have had a number of changes Kevin has retired as chairman and I am pleased to be accepted as the new chairman of RHV, our Treasurer position became vacant and Pat Lewis joined the committee to take on the role unfortunately due to personal issues he has had to step down. We are in the process of re-advertising the vacancy of Treasurer. In the meantime the role is being covered by me and Kevin while we sort out the details with Barclays. I will provide the Treasurer’s report.

We have received numerous donations from local organisations and in particular Town Councils.

As I mentioned I will provide the financial report which shows our income was £22,106 in the past year over £4,000 less than the previous year. Our expenditure was £15,844 which is £6,000 less than the previous year resulting in a surplus of £6,112. I would like to thank Nicola for organising the various fundraising events we have attended despite COVID and everyone involved in the setting up and the manning of our stall at these events prior to the COVID restrictions. I would like to thank the Volunteers for the submission of their time they spend with their clients and their 'out of pocket' expenses and to thank the Volunteers who have donated their expenses back to the charity. Clearly this also changed with the introduction of the restrictions.

As you know the CIO constitution requires that a third of the Trustees ‘stand down’ each year at the AGM, based on the length of service, so it is Clare’s turn to stand down today, as you will remember Joyce was re-elected last year at the 20[th] AGM. Later on, in the agenda I will accept nominations but I am sure Clare is happy to stand for re-election. Also my election as Chairmen will need to be ratified by the RHV membership so I will be asking for a nomination, seconder and a show of hands later in the agenda.

We are very lucky to have the support of the Doctors and their surgeries in West Mid Beds and Ivel Valley together with the Palliative care hub, the Community Matron/Nurses, Social Services, Carers in Beds and self-referrals for their support.

I would like to make a request regarding the need to strengthen our committee. If anyone is interested in joining our committee please let me or Nicola know.

A huge thank you, Nicola, for coordinating the Volunteers' activities, your energy and enthusiasm is much appreciated by the committee. Also thank you to Kathy and Joyce for providing excellent cover when Nicola is on holiday, as well as a huge thank you to our Volunteers for their loyal service and giving their time to our clients. A thank you to our committee, and finally a thank you to our helpers and fundraisers for their continued commitment.

Gareth Mackey, Chairman
