Charity’s purpose

As set out in the charity’s constitution the charity’s aim is to promote for the benefit of the inhabitants of Aldbourne in Wiltshire and the surrounding area, the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances or for the public at large in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the condition of life of the said inhabitants.

In furtherance of these aims the trustees have decided that the aims can best be met by the construction and operation of a community facility offering sports and leisure facilities on the land in the village of Aldbourne known as Palmer’s Field.

Activities

Following the consultations in the village during 2022 for the development on our 3-hectare site on what is called Palmer’s Field the Trustees’ collated the feedback from the public and the Parish Council. The site layout plans were revised and amended during this year and represented to the Parish Council in May 2023.

In September Parish council unanimously agreed to support the charity’s proposal for the development of the field. Following this the Trustees set about finding a planning consultant to help them with the next stage of the project – to seek planning permission to develop the site in to sport and recreational facilities for the village of Aldbourne.

At the beginning of 2024 the trustees started working with Alison Whalley of RAW Planning to develop pre planning application for the project.

In the meantime, the Trustees continued to refine budget forecasts and have conversations with potential funders and other similar projects. During the year the charity also continued to keep the community informed of updates and ran a couple of events to raise more funds.

In to 2025 the Trustees will focus on expanding the core team and maintain contacts with possible funders both locally and further afield. More events will be held to continue their intermediate funding needs.

Statement of Trustees' Responsibilities

The trustees are responsible for preparing the trustees' report and the financial statements in accordance with the United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice) and applicable law and regulations.

The law applicable to charities requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period.

In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to:

• select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;

• observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP;

• make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;

• state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and

• prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business.

The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the applicable Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations, and the provisions of the constitution. The trustees are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
