TRIBAL PROJECT TRUSTEES REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2026

Reference and administrative details of the charity

The charity is registered with the Charity Commission with number 1161044.

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in notes to the accounts and comply with the charity's governing document, the Charities Act 2011 and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland published on 16 July 2014. The trustees who have served during the year are set out in this document.

Structure, governance and management

The constitution of the organisation was adopted on 16th April 2014 and was last amended on 3rd March 2015.

Reporting to the Director, the charity has three part-time staff. Volunteers provide their time freely in a range of roles.

The trustees have examined the major strategic, business and operational risks which the charity faces and confirmed that systems have been established to enable regular reports to be produced so that the necessary steps can be taken to lessen the risks.

Trustees are recruited from the local communities which Tribal Project services, and as far as is practicable, recruitment is targeted to reflect both the skills that are needed and the diversity of the communities they serve. Induction training is provided to all trustees on appointment to familiarise them with the work of the organisation and to ensure that they can make an immediate contribution to its strategic management.

The charity applies salaries to all personnel commensurate with duties and that are consistent with the parameters of nationally agreed rates of pay. The Charity considers its key management personnel to be the Director.

The Board meets regularly to review performance, manage risk and guide strategic development. Work toward the CIO transition has been a major governance focus this year and positions the charity for sustainable long-term growth.

A highlight of the year was a visit from Mark Simms MBE, Chief Executive of the Charity Commission. Tribal Project was one of only two charities in Preston selected for a visit. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the health of the local voluntary sector; the challenges charities face daily and the impact of Tribal Project’s work. The visit was a significant recognition of the organisation’s progress and reputation.

Trustees

During the year the Board was strengthened and diversified in line with the 2024–2027 strategy. A trustee from the Muslim faith joined the Board, helping Tribal Project better understand and break down cultural and religious barriers that can prevent people from seeking support. This development reflects our commitment to reaching underserved communities and ensuring our governance reflects the diversity of Preston.

Objectives and Activities

The charity’s purpose is to provide support, recovery focused interventions and community connection for people affected by substance misuse and associated life challenges. Support includes one to one work, group workshops, volunteering opportunities and community outreach.

In line with the three-year strategy, the charity has also been exploring the development of services for young people and families. This work began in August 2025 and has now moved from initial exploration into Phase Two planning. This work remains unfunded but continues to develop through partnership discussions and planning activity.

Achievements and Performance

This has been a year of significant progress and growth.

Over the year Tribal Project supported approximately 270 individuals, reflecting continued demand for services and the growing reputation of the charity within Preston and surrounding areas.

A major milestone was the confirmation of long-term funding commitments. The National Lottery Community Fund confirmed a five-year commitment totalling £250,000 and Lloyds Bank Foundation confirmed unrestricted funding of £25,000 per year for three years. These awards provide a stronger foundation for sustainability and development.

The charity expanded its geographic reach in January 2026 by launching two additional weekly group workshops at Victory Park, Chorley, the home of Chorley Football Club. This development significantly improves access to support for people living outside Preston who previously needed to travel to receive help.

To support this expansion and strengthen administration, two new part time roles were created in February 2026. One role provides administrative support to the Director including funding, reporting and communications. The second role delivers group facilitation. Both roles were filled by individuals who previously received support from Tribal Project, progressed into volunteering and are now employed by the charity. This represents a powerful example of recovery, progression and lived experience shaping service delivery.

Staffing has therefore grown from one full time and one part time member of staff to one full time and three part time staff.

The charity also strengthened its volunteer base, with six volunteer roles filled during the year. Some roles supported short term projects and events while others continue to provide ongoing support to staff and participants.

A new CRM system was selected and implementation began during the year following successful funding. The Lamplight system will improve data management, reporting and outcome tracking and is due for completion in June 2026.

Community engagement increased significantly. Tribal Project has been more outward facing, attending community events, building relationships with stakeholders and raising awareness of the support available.

In June the charity hosted a community makers market fundraising event which raised over £2,000 and strengthened local community connections.

Financial Review

Total income for the year was £91,000, representing a significant increase on the previous year. The charity experienced no funding losses during the period and secured strong multiyear commitments that will support future sustainability. Full audited accounts are attached at the end of this document.

Plans for the Future

Over the coming year the charity will complete the CIO transition once Charity Commission approval is received. The Lamplight CRM system will be fully implemented. Work on the Youth and Family intervention programme will continue to develop in partnership with organisations already working in that space.

The charity will continue expanding reach, strengthening partnerships and ensuring sustainable funding to support the community in Preston and surrounding areas

Grant funding 23/24 was secured with thanks from:

Reserves policy

It is the policy of the charity to maintain sufficient funds to cover management and administration costs for a minimum of six months. At the end of this year 16 weeks costs were reserved.
