## **TRIBAL PROJECT TRUSTEES REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2022**

## **Reference and administrative details of the charity**

The charity is registered with the Charity Commission with number 1161044.

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in notes to the accounts and comply with the charity's governing document, the Charities Act 2011 and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland published on 16 July 2014.

The trustees who have served during the year are set out on page 1.

## **Structure, governance and management**

The constitution of the organisation was adopted on 16th April 2014 and was last amended on 03rd March 2015.

Reporting to the Service Director, the charity has two full time staff. Volunteers provide their time freely in a range of roles.

The trustees have examined the major strategic, business and operational risks which the charity faces and confirmed that systems have been established to enable regular reports to be produced so that the necessary steps can be taken to lessen the risks.

Trustees are recruited from the local communities which Tribal Project services, and as far as is practicable, recruitment is targeted to reflect both the skills that are needed and the diversity of the communities they serve. Induction training is provided to all trustees on appointment to familiarise them with the work of the organisation and to ensure that they can make an immediate contribution to its strategic management.

**Page 2**

The charity applies salaries to all personnel commensurate with duties and that are consistent with the parameters of nationally agreed rates of pay. The Charity considers its key management personnel to be the Service Director and the Creative Director.

## **Objectives and activities**

The key objective of the charity throughout this period was to continue providing our vital services to substance misuse and associated mental health community within Preston and central Lancashire.

Tribal Project to remain accessible to anyone who needed our support with a desire to change.

## **Achievements and performance**

Tribal Project continue to be the largest independent substance misuse and associated mental health charity in central Lancashire. We are proud of our independence and use this to react almost instantly to the needs of our community. This approach helps enables us to use our community’s voice as a driving factor in all the decision the Charity makes thus providing the support needed when it’s needed.

Our longer-term objective to improve the Charity structure through Trustee recruitment has been realised. The charity now has a dedicated team of five, all with specific a skill set and experience enabling the charity to continue our established work and look at how we can expand and improve the service we offer.

New, dynamic and innovative ways of communicating with our clients are now established. Clients can now choose how they want to access support from the charity ranging from remote access and support to 1-2-1 meetings.

**Page 3**

People accessing Tribal Project are provided with an exceptional pathway to recovery using cognitive behavioural therapy and rational emotive behavioural therapy. Clients report that they love coming to Tribal Project. They described it as being part of a happy and safe family. Clients are kind and care about others. They know about and value each other’s differences. Clients make friends and connect easily here. Staff resolve any incidents or clashes in personality quickly and effectively.

Clear and high ambitions are set for clients, grounded in the charity’s core values of ‘honesty, confidentiality and a desire to change’. These ambitions are fully realised. Clients thrive socially and emotionally. All clients, including those who are disadvantaged, and clients with special educational needs and/or disabilities and/or mental health diagnosis, achieve extremely well.

Clients enjoy each other’s company at social times. They smile and laugh a lot. Throughout the year Tribal Project facilitated 36 extra learning and education workshops and provided a cooked lunch on each occasion which allowed clients time to talk and develop new connections.

Tribal Project adopted a new admission process which includes an informal face to face chat with every person looking for support. This has proved to be hugely successful with all new clients signing up to our ‘desire to change’ philosophy. This means all clients are fully focused on learning in workshop/groups/1-2-1 meetings. Their behaviour is exemplary.

Clients benefit from an exceptional personal development programme. They gain the knowledge that they need to understand, participate and succeed in their recovery journey. Our activities and workshop grow clients’ character, confidence and personal identity throughout their time with the charity. Clients of all ages flourish in the roles of responsibility and leadership that they are offered through our volunteer program. Staff monitor client’ take-up in these roles, to help make sure that they all get the opportunity to enjoy this much valued aspect of recovery life. Clients receive a high-quality independent advice and guidance programme. This prepares them extremely well for their next steps in recovery, family life, education, employment or training.

Trustees continue to make an exceptional contribution to the charity’s success. They understand their responsibilities and they carry out their role to the highest standard. Trustees’ strategic leadership, coupled with their effective approach to holding staff to account, ensures that their high ambition for clients is met.

**Page 4**

Staff feel valued. They appreciate trustees’ work to support their well-being and ensure that they have a reasonable workload.

Our outreach service to provide support, contact, advice and friendship to people too ill or digitally unable to access help continues. These weekly visits have become vital to those who access them.

‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Recovery’. A bespoke set of cognitive behavioral therapy workshops written and owned by the by the charity has reached its final draft and will be made publicly available in late 2022.

## **Safeguarding**

Tribal Projects arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

Staff keep up to date with information about the dangers that clients may face. Therefore, staff are quick to spot the signs that clients may be at risk of harm. They report any concerns in a timely way. These concerns are acted upon promptly. Staff ensure that clients swiftly get the information and help that they need.

Clients learn about risks to their safety, and how to spot and avoid them. They seek help when they need it.

## **2022/23 – Looking forward**

Tribal Project will continue to be the best we can be for our often marginalised and overlooked community. We will continue to be and independent voice of people in recovery in central Lancashire.

We will continue to develop new, exciting and ground-breaking ways to make peoples journey into substance misuse recovery, better physical and mental health easier and more enjoyable.

We will build new partnerships with organisation who share our ethos and develop those that we have created in the past.

With the support of an active, driven and caring board, staff and volunteers Tribal Project look forward to the next year with confidence and optimism.
