## **Chairman’s Report 2020 -** _AGM May 12 2021_

At the last AGM we were looking forward to the concert at the Italian Church in Wilton, wondering how we were going to get an audience in London and considering how to improve numbers at the next _Come & Sing_ .

The concert in Wilton was a great success, and we were very fortunate to get in there before the lockdown.

The time since then has seen periods of quiet and also periods of great activity, weekly meeting and intense discussions and debates. Like the rest of the world we were trying to work out what to do, what would be best and safest for the choir, whilst navigating the latest rules and interpretations of the rules, seeking advice, cancelling plans, making plans and wondering when would we ever sing together again. Some of us did manage some live rehearsals, although the singing in a mask is troublesome.

With enormous thanks to our illustrious musical director, we produced some fine recordings and videos, despite the stress, anguish and technical challenges experienced by some. We now have a permanent record of something positive to look back on. Out of _Abendlied_ , _Christmas Medley_ and _When All Of This Is Over_ , Chairman’s prize, if there was one, goes to Bethan and her donkey in the _Christmas Medley_ .

Very sadly, we lost one of our members last year, Mark Duly. A fine singer, with excellent taste in Christmas jumpers, he is greatly missed by all. And we greatly appreciate Rose Duly’s fortitude in completing her treasurer duties in difficult circumstances.

Peter Toye, our accompanist, stepped down due to ill health; we gained Ben Maton, who has now stepped down to concentrate on his studies; and we welcome John Cuthbert.

We look forward to singing together again, and never taking it for granted.

I would like to thank everyone who contributes to the enormous task that is running SCC. Your support and enthusiasm for the choir is what makes this so special and a joy with which to participate. Special thanks go to Charlotte and Fran who are stepping down this time. Your time has been greatly appreciated.

And finally, we would not be here without Simon, who has lifted our spirits, kept us going, tolerated our inability to cope with syncopation, and provided us with so many opportunities to allow us to still feel connected to something bigger and better than ourselves at the hardest of time. Thank you so much Simon.
