The power of appointing new trustees is vested in the existing trustees All trustees give their time voluntarily and receiv8 no remuneration. They all make a contribution to the successful running of the charty, in particular by attending meetings regularly to ensure the charity Is operated appropriately and any issues are quickly and adequately resolved. The CEO Leonora Dawson-Bowling, employed on a contractual basis, leads on the daily work of the trust in consultation with the trustees {and also attends and raports 8t trust me8tings), furthering the trust's objedives and aGtivities. Objectives and activities The charity's objective is to advance the appreciation, wider understanding and education of th8 public in respect of music, musical works and composers with particular reference to the music, works, writing and life of the late Stephen Dodgson. It achieves this by.. (a) Making grants to other charities with similar objectives to the trust and (b) Making grants I paying fees to individuals (i) who record the works of St8phen Dodgson (li) who perform the works of Stephen Dodgson lili) for the establishment of a website providing information about the charity and its activities liv)for other purposes within the scope of the objectives. Annual Re ort- continued For The Year Ended 31 March 2025 Financial Review During 2024-2025 the trust continued its focus on the centenary in 1924 of Stephen Dodgson's birth. The events, recordings and performances which follow were variously commissioned, organised and supported financially by the trust- April 2024 A concert at the Conway Hall featuring the Karolos Quintet playing Dodgson's String Trio no. 2 as well as works by Bach. Schubert and Mozart April 2024 - James Turnbull (oboe) and Eleanor Turner (harp) p&rfomied Stephen Dodgson's Countdown as part of a chamber music concert entitled 'Memento' April 2024 Release of 'Mirage'. Piano Music by Stephen Dodgson, CDlrecording recorded by Osman Tack on the Somm label May 2024 - Centenary biography launch and concert at the Royal Academy of Music May 2024 - Release of 'Canticle of the Sun.. Choral Music by Stephen Dodgson, complete CDlrecording of choral works recorded by professional choir Sonoro on the Somm lab81 May 2024 The London Festival of Contemporary Church Music commemorated Stephen Dodgson's cenlenary with a concert that featured several of his sacred choral works alongside music of other contemporary composers Sept 2024 The Outcry Ensemble, English Voices and Pegasus choir performed and Iiv8-recorded Stephen Dodgson's full-scale Te Deum alongside Copland's Music for a Great City, Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra and Walton's B81shazzals Feast in a memorable concert at St John's Smtth Square Oct 2024 Baritone Jon Stainsby, clarinettist Anthony Friend and string orchestra Concordium, conducted by Lucy Goddard, presented Stephen Dodgson's cantata Last of the L8av8s alongsid8 Gerald Finzi's clarinet concerto and Leoa Janatsk's Suite for Strings at St Stephen's Dulwich Oct 2024 - The Magnard Ensemble and a cast of soloists performed Stephen Dodgson's short chamber opera Cadilly alongside his Sonata for Wind Quint8t at Conway Hall Nov 2024 The Outcry Ensemble and Academy of English Voices performed and live- recorded Stephen Dodgson's full-scale upper-voice Hymn to Harmony at St John's Smith Square alongside other works by Gibbons, Vaughan Williams and Coleridge-Taylor Nov 2024 Trumpeter Imogen Whitehead, with St Martin's Chamber Ensemble and conductor Patrick Milne, performed Slephen Dodgson's Trumpet Concerto alongside Haydn's Trumpet Concerto and Mozart's Divertimentrj in D at st Martin-in-the-Fields Nov 2024- At the request of Luton Music Club the Magnard Ensemble returned to play in LMC'S centenary concert f@aturing Stephen Dodgson's Promenade no. 2 Mar 2025 - The trust sponsored the opening night of the Barnes Music Festival 2025 with a major conc8rt perform8d by th8 Acad8my of St hAartin in th8 Fields. The evening The Ste hen Dod son Charitable Trust Trustees, Annual Re ort- continued For The Year Ended 31 March 2025 featured Stephen Dodgson's Essay No. 7, Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings, Mozart's Horn Conc8rt0 No. 4 and concluded by Gustav Holst's St Paul's Suite The Irusl also sponsored 2 scholarships for 2 students at Birmingham Conservatoire, guitarist and a singer. In addition, the trust continued ils work of: website maintenance and enhancement proof-r8ading and typesetting of the works of Stephen Dodgson outreach to arts organisations, festivals and musicians social media and marketing work including newsletters, blogs and avent-sharing In March 2025, the trust appointed Leonora Dawson-Bowling as CEO. Leonora had previously been working for the trust as project manager and website manager since 2016 on a contractual basis, contributing, consulting and leading on various trust projects. Maintaining the pattern set up during the COVID pandemic, the trusl continued to hold its meetings remotely using videoconferencing. This ha5 now become the trust's default technology for trustees, meetings. Th8 trust received income of approximately £64,000 (2024.. £85,000> from different sources including a number of private donations, Gift Aid, royalties and music sales. Expenditure amounted to some £77,000 (2024.. £83,000). At the year end the trust had a bank balance ofjust over £78,000 (2024.. £91,000) and liabilities of £1,215 (2024.. £1,135). Reserves policy: None of the charity's funds constitute permanent endowment. They have been used for grants which the trustees have thought fit to make. The trust aims to maintain a minimum bank balance of £10,000 to cater for unplanned costs, expenses and unforeseen opportunities to further its objectives. From time to time the trustees will reserve additional financial assels to build up funds for significant events such as recordings, performances and concerts. As they did during the COVID pandemic the trustees continued to make grants to young musicians who have been typesetting and proof-reading musical scores of Stephen Dodgson's music, rather than accumulat8 n88dlessly large res8rves. Risk management: The trustees have examined the major strategic, financial, business and operational risks which the charity faces and confirm that systems have been established and measures adopted to minimise these risks. The Treasurer reports on the charity's financial status at each trustees, meeting and frequent monitors the charity's financial assets. The law applicable to charities in England and Wa18s requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the income and 8XP8nditur8 of the charity for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to= select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently,. observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP., make judgements and accounting estimates that are re8sonable and prudent., state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the fsnancial statements, and pr8par8 th8 financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business. The trustees are responsible for maint8ining proper accounting records which disclos8 With reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial ststements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008, and thé provisions of the trust deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
