## Thank You ...

**The Directors acknowledge and are incredibly grateful for the support given in the current year by individual sponsors, community groups and churches. The donations to I GOT SHOES help us see the lives of the vulnerable and their families transformed. Three years ago, we started by giving just ten pairs of shoes. We’ve now seen over 528 students step into education from your generosity.**

**While we would love to contain the ever-increasing numbers, we know hundreds of hearts and families are being touched. Yes, it is challenging and stretching, yet we would not want it any other way.**

**We’re grateful for your part. Together, we can help more children access education. Thank you!**

Objectives **& Activities Our focus area is linked to two particular groups to create longevity of relationship and continue strengthening due diligence and accountability.**

**We currently partner with two schools in Uganda: Shalom Primary School in Kyotera, Rakai District, and Jubilee Care Nursery and Primary School in Kyebando, Kawempe District.**

**We are taking extra steps to tackle injustice by helping those with limited or no opportunity to** ANGELO BREWING **get access to education in Uganda.**

**We have seen that owning a pair of shoes can change a child’s life.**

**We see education as a key to equality, opening the doorway to greater opportunity and freedom.**

How we help ...

**£15 shoes £20 school uniform**

## Objectives **& Activities**

**The charity’s objectives are for the promotion of any charitable purposes according to Christian principles without distinction of race, religion, gender or any other kind of discrimination. Our objectives include improving the conditions of life of individuals, the relief of sickness and financial hardship, the promotion and preservation of good health. We do this through the provision of funds, goods or services of any kind and the advancement of education as the trustees may from time to time think fit.**

**£70 provides shoes, uniform and school fees for a student for 1 year!**

**The charity operates solely on a volunteer basis from its trustees and weekly volunteers. We have no paid UK members of staff. 100% of the funds goes to the operation and running of the charity.**

**Our Ugandan team help coordinate and manage the day-to-day work of the charity. They oversee the outworking of the schools and projects. The charity is grateful for the commitment and work of its Ugandan team and the support and encouragement of its UK volunteers and trustees.**

The charity trustees have complied with their duty in section 17(5) of the 2011 Charities Act to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers and duties.

**I GOT SHOES charity is voluntarily registered with the Fundraising Regulator in the UK, ensuring compliance and instruction in regard to safe and effective fundraising during Covid-19.**

**Helping more children access education …**

After 83 weeks, schools opened across Uganda in January 2022. Our students were bursting with excitement, even tears from mothers, for children to be in school again and to receiveANGELO BREWING school uniforms and SHOES. Additional staff was hired to meet the demands of surging numbers, and students arrived excited for a bright future! We have met our target of sponsorship in 2022 for 354 students in Shalom Primary School in Rakai and 150+ students in Jubilee Nursery & Primary School.

## Senior School Spotlight

**Meet *Faith* one of our scholarship students! She is the first to attend senior school in her family. Her best subjects are English and Sciences. The second term really tested Faith's abilities as she struggled with her health fighting malaria and ended up in hospital. Sadly, it also meant Faith missed her exams.**

**Yet, as her health grew stronger, she was determined and kept working hard. Her desire is to help others through pursuing a career in medicine. Faith has managed to complete this year with a B average! We're so proud of her effort and courage.**

**Faith is just one of many students who would not be in education if it wasn’t for your support. Thank you for helping make their dreams become a reality.**

***Pseudonyms are used to protect children's identity.**

Impacting lives...

**I GOT SHOES fulfilled a large-scale target in 2022 by not only sustaining but increasing the number of students involved in our Scholarship Programme. In rural Uganda, 85% of children will attend primary school but education typically stops there. The percentage drops drastically to 14% of those attending senior academic or vocational school due to the costs. We are incredibly grateful for our monthly partners whose contributions help keep young students -- especially girls in education.**

**We are ecstatic that 15 out of 24 Senior students are girls! We know gaining academic and vocational skills in a Christian environment will make a significant difference in their lives. Through our** ANGELO BREWING **scholarship programme, we are raising awareness that over 130 million girls worldwide have no access to education, forcing young girls to marry, becoming young mothers trapped in poverty, or worse. Each have had challenges to overcome to continue to expand their knowledge, and pursue their dreams but are thriving and we're cheering them on! We continue to build stronger links with our Senior schools, keeping regular contact and encouraging each student to keep going strong.**

**"Thank you for all you've done for my family and friends. My own parents wouldn't have been able to provide my school fees but you were able to sacrifice all you have for us. I pray you will continue providing for me as God provides for you."**

**Shalom Primary School, Rakai Uganda**

Impact & Collaboration Shalom Nursery Building ...

**The school has brought life to the village. We see the teachers, students and families full of gratitude, and, most of all, hope for this next generation.**

Over £10,557 raised for nursery building & school gate School Fence & Gatehouse ...

**Our hearts are full of gratitude for these additions that will help protect the students, staff, and property.**

**Trustees Annual Report I GOT SHOES 2022 Community Impact**

**12**

**Children in Uganda overcome huge obstacles to stay in education. Our sponsorship and scholarship programmes are providing shoes, uniform, and school fees. In 2022, over £29,628 went towards accomplishing this. School fees help towards teacher and staff salaries and ensure each child is given one hot meal a day.**

**Our Ugandan Project Manager, Justine, coordinated uniforms and shoes for over 500+ students throughout the year. I GOT SHOES is passionate about equality. We hire local women tailors to make the school uniforms. Our hearts are that each woman would see her value and worth in who they are made to be.**

## **Community Impact**

Scan for more stories..

**Local pastors Ben & Justine Tumwebaze head up our Uganda Team. They long to see sustainable change and we are incredibly thankful to work with them. They have given sacrificial investments in training leaders, supporting the vulnerable, and creating opportunities for orphans and single-parent families.**

**I will never forget one conversation with our partners. My Western mindset reeled off this question, ‘Why would you seemingly overcrowd the schools?’ The reply came, ‘Everyone deserves a chance.' So many are illiterate; they long to know how to read and write. Eventually, it affects the community, even the church. How can they ever learn to study the Bible themselves?’ We are giving them a ‘reasonable opportunity’.**

**I GOT SHOES Christmas, basins were filled with essential food supplies for over 100 families associated with our two schools. £1,560 was given to this appeal.**

## **Financial Review**

**Resilience was built during the year through increased awareness of the needs through social media coverage, and individual and group donations.**

**Total incoming resources for the year were £51,521. The charity’s principal source of income is donations received £42,662. Grant Aid of £6,001 and Gift Aid £2,859 making the remainder funds. Total expenditure for the year was £42,321. Less than 1.4% went to the cost of running the charity, the remaining 98.6% went directly to the work in Uganda.**

## **Our reserves policy:**

The charity's reserves policy is to hold sufficient money in reserve to enable it to meet increases in school fees and the considerable increase in the cost of education in employing teachers, which currently the school fees cover their wages.

There were no funds in deficit.

**An independent examiner’s report on the accounts was carried out by P Harding on 21/6/2023. Financial statements attached.**
