## Thank You ...

**The Directors acknowledge and are incredibly grateful the support given in the current year by individual sponsors, community groups and churches. The donations to I GOT SHOES help us see lives of the vulnerable and their families transformed.**

**And we’ve seen what a difference, no matter how small, that doing something is better than nothing! We are so grateful for the monthly supporters, and individual donors that have come on board this year. We truly could not do this without your support.**

## **Thank you!**

## Penny Seithel

Objectives **& Activities Our focus area is linked to two particular groups to create longevity of relationship and continue strengthening due diligence and accountability.**

**We currently partner with two schools in Uganda: Shalom Primary School in Kyotera, Rakai District, and Jubilee Care Nursery and Primary School in Kyebando, Kawempe District.**

**We are taking extra steps to tackle injustice by helping those with limited or no opportunity to** ANGELO BREWING **get access to education in Uganda.**

**We have seen that owning a pair of shoes can change a child’s life.**

**We see education as a key to equality, opening the doorway to greater opportunity and freedom.**

## How we help ...

**£15 shoes £20 school uniform**

## Making a difference

**£35 school fees**

**Through the provision of financial support, scholarships and the provision of materials and facilities for education we are meeting our objectives.**

Objectives **& Activities The charity’s objects are for the promotion of any charitable purposes according to Christian principles without distinction of race, religion, gender or any other kind with the object of improving the conditions of life of persons including (but not so as to limit the generality of the foregoing) the relief of sickness and financial hardship, the promotion and preservation of good health including the provision of funds, goods or services of any kind and the advancement of education as the trustees may from time to time think fit.**

**£70 provides shoes, uniform and school fees for a student for 1 year!**

**The charity operates solely on a volunteer basis from its trustees and weekly volunteers. We have no paid members of staff. 100% of the funds goes to the operation and running of the charity.**

**We partner with a team of volunteers to help in Uganda who coordinate and manage the day-to-day work of the charity. The charity is grateful for the commitment and work of its Ugandan team and the support and encouragement of its UK volunteers and trustees**

**The charity trustees have complied with their duty in section 17(5) of the 2011 Charities Act to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers and duties.**

## **Senior School Scholarships**

**As lockdown in Uganda ended December 2021, anticipation built for schools to fully reopen after two years closed. We have met our target of 150 children sponsored for education in Jubilee Care Nursery & Primary School, Kyebando and 250 children at Shalom Primary School, Rakai.**

**Meet *Naomi* one of our scholarship students! She was asked why she wanted to continue studying; here is a snippet of the handwritten letter we received!**

**"To begin with, I would love to continue studying because studies will lead me to success; I hope to study Arts and Sciences and also history. I hope to do so because they will make me a great woman in the future. Secondly, I am good at music, dance and drama. I was also a debate prefect and an English prefect. Lastly after my studies, I would like to become a lawyer and a great businesswoman. With those, I really appreciate you for sponsoring me. May the Lord bless you and protect you." **

## **Trustees Annual Report I GOT SHOES 2021**

## Impact 2021

**I GOT SHOES first major target in January 2021 was continuing provision for 14 residential students and staff at Shalom Primary school, Rakai District, Uganda. Our P7 students began preparing for their Primary Leaving Exams and both teachers and students worked extremely hard together! Despite the Ugandan Ministry of Education reopening schools for exam students, less than 30 percent of them across the country returned. We were thankful to have this opportunity to support these 14 students who confidently sat their P7 exams.**

**One of the most exciting achievements in 2021 for I GOT SHOES, was founding our scholarship programme. We are passionate for children to** ANGELO BREWING **have the opportunity to continue scholastically and vocationally once leaving Primary school. 13 of our residential students, along with 4 others from our school in Kampala, have continued to Senior school through our scholarship programme.**

**We are ecstatic that 12 of these students are girls, believing this opportunity will make a difference in their lives.**

## Scholarship Programme

**Through our scholarship**

**programme, we are raising awareness that over 130 million girls worldwide have no access to education, forcing young girls to marry, becoming young mothers trapped in poverty, or worse.**

Impact & Collaboration Shalom Classroom Building ...

**The school is beautiful, and the local village can hardly believe its transformation.**

**This has brought such hope and encouragement to the wider community.**

Over £10,530 was raised to finish classroom

Water Tanks ...

**Through this project we learned, that due to contaminated water, 800 children die daily globally from diarrhoea.Despite having a lake 1/4 mile away, to have safe drinking water on site for the school is invaluable and life changing.**

**Trustees Annual Report I GOT SHOES 2021**

**12**

## **Community Impact**

**Our Ugandan project manager, Justine, took on the task for coordinating all uniforms and shoes for the 250 students at Shalom Primary School in Rakai District. Our current sponsorship programme costs £70 per child, per school year providing school shoes, uniform and school fees.**

**Over £10,982 was given to Shalom helping accomplish this. I GOT SHOES is passionate about equality. We hire local women tailors to make the school uniforms. Our hearts are that each woman would see her value and worth in who they are made to be.**

**Trustees Annual Report I GOT SHOES 2021**

**----- Start of picture text -----**
13
**----- End of picture text -----**
## **Community Impact**

**I GOT SHOES extended Covid relief to local families as Uganda entered a second lockdown in June 2021. £864 provided rice, beans, maize flour to 55 of our families associated with the two schools. Our Rakai teachers tutored students in their homes and remained connected to** ~~**vulnerable families.**~~

**At Christmas, basins were filled with essential food supplies for over 100 families associated with our two schools. £1,505 was given to this appeal.**

## **Description of the charity's trusts:**

**Memorandum and Articles of Association dated 20 July 2014.**

**Directors are selected on the basis of their experience and commitment to the objects of the charity. They are appointed by the Directors by Ordinary Resolution.**

**The trustees, who are also directors for the purposes of company law, are listed above. New trustees are appointed by the board of trustees in accordance with the Articles of Association. The trustees are also the members and in the event of the company being wound up they are required to contribute an amount not exceeding £1.**

**The Articles of Association require that there be a minimum of three trustees (no maximum).**

**The trustees help formulate the longer-term strategies for the charity and delegate the day-to-day operations of the charity to the CEO, Penny Seithel and Gary Seithel, director.**

**Trustees Annual Report I GOT SHOES 2021**

**14**

## **Financial Review**

**Resilience was built during the year through increased awareness of the needs through social media coverage, and individual and group donations.**

**Total incoming resources for the year were £39,399. The charity’s principal source of income is donations received £30,529. Grant Aid of £6,952 and Gift Aid £1,918 making the remainder funds. Total expenditure for the year was £30,021. Less than 2% went to the cost of running the charity, the remaining 98% went directly to our work in Uganda.**

## **Our reserves policy:**

The charity's reserves policy is to hold sufficient money in reserve to enable it to meet increases in school fees and the considerable increase in the cost of education in employing teachers, which the school fees cover their wages.

There were no funds in deficit.

**An independent examiner’s report on the accounts was carried out by P Harding on 25/2/2022. Financial statements attached.**
