Section B Structure, governance and management

Description of the charity’s trusts

Type of governing document

Trust Deed

How the charity is constituted

Trust

The power of appointing new or additional Trustees is vested in the Settlor Trustee selection methods during his lifetime and thereafter to the present Trustees. Every new (eg. appointed by, elected by) Trustee must sign a declaration of willingness to act as a Trustee of the Charity before he or she may act as a Trustee.

Additional governance issues (Optional information)

You may choose to include additional information, where relevant, about:

The Trust is a registered charity, number 1160855, and is constituted under a Trust Deed dated 5 March 2015. The Charity was established in March 2015 through an initial donation of £1,000,000 from the Chairman of Trustees and Settlor, David Rasche.

The Trustees had initial training on responsibilities and charitable governance provided by Wrigleys Solicitors charity specialists.

The Trust Deed provides for a minimum of 3 Trustees, to a maximum of 8 Trustees, or a sole corporate Trustee. The Trust Deed also provides that the Trustees must hold at least one meeting a year.

The Trustees met three times during the year to formally discuss grant applications which are reviewed by one or more of the Trustees initially and a shortlist drawn up each quarter. At one meeting, the Trustees also confirmed the strategy of distributing roughly £60,000 of the capital grant per annum.

Section C Objectives and activities

Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document

The objects of the Trust are for the public benefit to advance such exclusively charitable purposes (according to the law of England and Wales) as the Trustees see fit from time to time including (but without limiting the generality of the foregoing) to make grants to: - Advance education; - Advance health; and

For several years the Trustees have also supported Caring for Life a local Christian charity that cares for vulnerable people by providing accommodation and ongoing support.

Section E Financial review

Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves

The Trustees have decided not to hold reserves on the basis that the charity has no overheads and recognises grants at the time of approval, rather than when the grant is paid, which ensures that the trustees can honour the grants that they have decided to award. The Trustees keep their position on reserves under review.

Details of any funds materially in deficit

Further financial review details (Optional information)

You may choose to include additional information, where relevant about:

Investment policy

The Trustees consider the financial position of the Charity to be satisfactory.

The Trustees have the power to invest in such assets as we see fit. Funds have been placed with Handlesbanken and all funds held are unrestricted. During the year capital has been invested in cautious managed funds to try and increase the interest earned.

Funds are also held in a private equity fund to increase returns.

The Trustees met three times during the year to formally discuss grant applications.

The Rasche Family Charitable Trust

The trust remains in good financial health despite the economic turbulence experienced over the last year or so. Investments are now down a little but should recover and we still have a good proportion in immediately accessible bank accounts.

We continue to support the work of our main charities, The On Course Foundation, African Revival and Caring for Life, as well as a few local charities. We also supported the DEC Ukraine Appeal and the trustees have separately supported a displaced Ukrainian family with accommodation.

As trustees we meet and discuss our policies as well as grant applications we receive. Not many new applications pass our remit and are local, so we mainly grant to charities we have helped in the past.

We continue to use the services of Wrigleys Solicitors Llp to advise us on any changes in legislation or good governance practice.

In the forceable future we expect to continue to grant around £60,000 per annum to the current charities that we support, but do review all grant applications, that we receive.

We are aware that the current climate means that there are more people in need and we do try to consider this in reviewing our levels of grant. Our grants will be a small proportion of that needed by those we support, but we hope it still makes a difference to the benefactors.
