## **Section B Structure, governance and management**

## **Description of the charity’s trusts**

Type of governing document

Trust Deed

- (eg. trust deed, constitution)

How the charity is constituted

Trust

- (eg. trust, association, company)

The power of appointing new or additional Trustees is vested in the Settlor Trustee selection methods during his lifetime and thereafter to the present Trustees. Every new (eg. appointed by, elected by) Trustee must sign a declaration of willingness to act as a Trustee of the Charity before he or she may act as a Trustee.

## **Additional governance issues (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant, about:

- policies and procedures adopted for the induction and training of trustees;

- the charity’s organisational structure and any wider network with which the charity works;

- relationship with any related parties;

- trustees’ consideration of major risks and the system and procedures to manage them.

The Trust is a registered charity, number 1160855, and is constituted under a Trust Deed dated 5 March 2015. The Charity was established in March 2015 through an initial donation of £1,000,000 from the Chairman of Trustees and Settlor, David Rasche.

The Trustees had initial training on responsibilities and charitable governance provided by Wrigleys Solicitors charity specialists.

The Trust Deed provides for a minimum of 3 Trustees, to a maximum of 8 Trustees, or a sole corporate Trustee. The Trust Deed also provides that the Trustees must hold at least one meeting a year.

The Trustees met three times during the year to formally discuss grant applications which are reviewed by one or more of the Trustees initially and a shortlist drawn up each quarter. At one meeting, the Trustees also confirmed the strategy of distributing roughly 5% of the capital grant per annum.

## **Section C Objectives and activities**

**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**

The objects of the Trust are for the public benefit to advance such exclusively charitable purposes (according to the law of England and Wales) as the Trustees see fit from time to time including (but without limiting the generality of the foregoing) to make grants to: - Advance education;

- Advance health; and

- To relieve those in need by reason of ill health or disability.

The Trustees have agreed to continue to support the two key Charities that the settlor and his family know well and have supported for a number of years. These are: The On Course Foundation, which helps severely injured current and past service personnel rehabilitate through golf; African Revival, which builds schools and supports other educational and community needs in rural Africa.

For several years the Trustees have also supported Caring for Life a local Christian charity that cares for vulnerable people with no-one else through providing accommodation and or ongoing support.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

**Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

## **Section E                    Financial review**

**Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves**

## **Details of any funds materially**

**in deficit**

The Trustees have decided not to hold reserves on the basis that the charity has no overheads and recognises grants at the time of approval, rather than when the grant is paid, which ensures that the trustees can honour the grants that they have decided to award. The Trustees keep their position on reserves under review.

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about:

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

- how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;

- investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.

## **Investment policy**

The Trustees consider the financial position of the Charity to be satisfactory.

The Trustees have the power to invest in such assets as we see fit. Funds have been placed with Handlesbanken and all funds held are unrestricted. During the year capital has been invested in cautious managed funds to try and increase the interest earned.

Funds are also held in a private equity fund to increase returns.

The Trustees met three times during the year to formally discuss grant applications.

## **Section F Other optional information**

## **Section G                    Declaration**

Rasche Family Charitable Trust Accounts to 31 March 2021

The charitable trust is in a good financial position with interest and dividends etc. slightly exceeding grants and expenses. The trustees continue to maintain a good capital balance, so the income can be used for annual grants rather than using much of the capital.

Aside from the two main charities that we support, The On Course Foundation and African Revival, other grants are made just to local charities.

The past two years of the pandemic have been very difficult for many, many people, so we have tried to increase our grant making a little in order to help a few more of those badly affected. We intend to do so again during the current financial year.

The trustees have met formally and informally during the year, as well as emailing documents and thoughts on which charities to support.

We cannot make enough difference by donating small amounts to all the requests for assistance we receive and therefore we concentrate on charities that are local, where we know our help goes directly to their beneficiaries. We believe it is better to provide six or eight grants, where we can follow the progress of the charity, rather than spread our net wider.

We hope, that acting this way we can offer greater help to those we support.

The trustees would like to thank the charities we support for the good work they do on behalf of their beneficiaries and our advisers for their guidance.

David A Rasche Chairman of Trustees
