## IN CHARLEYS MEMORY

## Report of the Trustees For the year March 2020 to February 2021

The Trustees have pleasure in presenting their report and financial statement for the year ending 29[th] February 2021.

## Structure

The trust is governed by a constitution and by Trustees who serve a threeyear term and are eligible for re-election. They are assisted by full and part time staff and volunteers.

## Trustees

The following held office during the period covered by this report:

Doug Plume Pauline West Joanne Clement Harry Marks Martyn Ellis Bernard Barden Roger West Ray Stewart (Chair) Tess Munt

## Objectives

In Charley’s Memory is a local charity that is dedicated to promoting, protecting, and preserving young people’s mental health.

## Public Beneft

The charitable purpose of the trust is mental health, primarily to reduce the risk of suicide, pursued by education. Benefits are improved life chances for both beneficiaries and their families. By pursuing this activity there is no evident drawbacks. Direct beneficiaries are predominantly young people while indirect benefits are their family, education providers and the general public. Benefits are not restricted by price, grants and donations enable us to provide the service.

## Review of Trust Activities & Plans

At the start of the year, we were seeing more young people per week than previous years, In Charley’s Memory had begun other projects such as providing a counsellor in a local school on a permanent basis and working with a housing charity that provided counselling to the young people who had previously been homeless. As well as running our drop in programs with local schools and awareness assemblies.

Like many organizations we were significantly impacted by covid 19. Following Government guidelines we had to close our counselling services. At the time we were seeing 65 young people a week as well as the projects we were running.

Due to additional funding received we were able to reopen in June, and continue with our face to face counselling, by the end of September enquires for counselling had doubled on our pre lockdown figures. However we were unable to commence existing external projects.

## Review of Financial Results

The accompanying financial statement shows that income for the year was just over £102,081. This was predominantly made up of grants awarded during the covid pandemic.

Expenses such as staffing, rent and insurance were again the principal costs. With all staff being paid furlough during the first lockdown.

Due to covid all our fundraising events planned by us and others had been cancelled with an estimated loss of £30,000.00

Despite the difficulties faced this year, the trustees are of the opinion that these results are excellent with a healthy year-end balance of just under £40,000.00.

2021/2022 looks again to be a busy year for In Charley’s Memory with expansion planned as a result of the increase in demand to our services. With fundraising events restarting and many be carried over the trustees are positive this will again be a successful year.

All Trustees are local and were not paid any expenses during the year. The trustees continue to abide by the code.

## Reserves

Trustees have taken the view that the chief requirements is the provision for redundancy payments should a financial crisis occur, due to covid it has been problematic opening a bank account to hold the charities reserves. This is something that the board will continue to work on.

## Risk Statement

All steps have been taken by the board of trustees to mitigate any risk the charity may be exposed to. Persons Exercising Control

In Charley’s memory is governed solely .by its board of trustees and no other institutions exercise control

Signed on behalf of the trustees
