Trustees' Report

Year ended 28 February 2025

The trustees present their report and the unaudited financial statements of the company for the year ended 28 February 2025.

The accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis and comply with the Charity's governing document and applicable law.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives

The objectives of the Charity are to raise awareness of Kennedy's disease in the general population of the UK, to raise funds for research into understanding the mechanisms of the disease with a view to finding suitable treatments and to provide support for Kennedy's disease patients, carers and carriers.

Aims, Strategies and Activities for the year

The Charity continued to raise funds through sponsorship events, and donations, to be channelled into research to advance the understanding of the mechanisms of the disease with a view to finding suitable treatments. In addition, the Charity aims to provide funding for clinical support of Kennedy's disease patients and carriers. In planning activities for the year, the Trustees kept in mind the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

Charitable Activities

KD-UK has continued to support the salary of the specialist KD nurse at UCLH in London and has fully funded a clinical research physio. These commitments will continue into the next financial year. The charity also now employs an administrator for one day a week on a contract basis. Other key activity included the strengthening of links with the Motor Neurone Disease Association and other International Kennedy's Disease charities. A key goal for 2025/2026 is to rebuild the KD-UK website and professionalise the charity's fundraising.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Total receipts for the year amounted to £20,056 (2024 - £58,094) and expenses were £108,666 (2024 - £27,473). Unrestricted reserves at 28 February 2025 amount to £136,209 (2024 - £230,249).

Reserves Policy

The Trustees have reviewed their policy, considering recommendations by the Charity Commission with regards to maintaining an acceptable level of reserves. The charity has set a reserve of £20,000. This is sufficient to cover KDUK's very low overheads during a lean fundraising year.

Organisational Structure

The Charity is managed and operated by the Board of Trustees who meet at least twice a year.
