for the year ended 28th February 2022
The Trustees present their report together with the financial statements of the Charity for the period ended 28th February 2022.
The accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis and comply with the Charity's governing document and applicable law.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives
The objectives of the Charity are to raise awareness of Kennedy's disease in the general population of the UK, provide practical information to patients carriers, and carers, and raise funds for research into the disease.
Aims, Objectives, Strategies and Activities for the year
The policy of the Charity is to fulfil its objectives by organising and participating in leisure sporting events to raise funds via sponsorship of volunteers and holding social events to raise awareness using social media and the internet as a vehicle. In planning activities for the year, the Trustees kept in mind the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable Activities
KD-UK charitable activities have focused on a Great Road Trip from Los Angeles to Rome in a donated 2CV car. This has raised meaningful funds from both corporate and individual donors. In addition, funds have continued be raised from regular supporters, legacy payments and support from major organisations such as PayPal giving.
The Great Road Trip has played a key role in strengthening the relationship between KD-UK and the KDA in the United States and Aimak in Italy.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position
Total receipts for the year amounted to £70,379 (2021 - £14,868) and net incoming receipts were £34,504 (2021 – £10,193). Unrestricted reserves on 28th February 2022 amount to £173,695.
Reserves Policy
The Trustees have reviewed their policy, considering recommendations by the Charity Commission, with regards to maintaining an acceptable level of reserves.
The charity has set a reserve of £10,000. This is sufficient to cover KD-UK’s very low overheads during a lean fundraising year. During 2022 the charity was run entirety by unpaid volunteers.
The charity is keen to see the funds that have been raised being effectively deployed. The charity is working with both the UK research community, and the Kennedy Disease clinical teams at University College London Hospital, to identify where the charity funds can make the biggest difference.
