KD-UK, Kennedy's Disease UK Report of the Trustees for the year ended 28th February 2021
The Trustees present their report together with the financial statements of the Charity for the period ended 28th February 2021.
The accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis and comply with the Charity's governing document and applicable law.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives
The objectives of the Charity are to raise awareness of Kennedy's disease in the general population of the UK and raise funds for research into understanding the mechanisms of the disease with a view to finding suitable treatments.
Aims, Objectives, Strategies and Activities for the year
The policy of the Charity is to fulfil it's objectives by organising and participating in leisure sporting events to raise funds via sponsorship of volunteers and holding social events to raise awareness using social media and the internet as a vehicle. In planning activities for the year the Trustees kept in mind the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable Activities
KD-UK charitable activities 2021 have been limited significantly by COVID. All of the charity activists are clinically vulnerable and chose to protect themselves during lockdown and beyond. There has been one major fundraiser undertaking with a company undertaking a 3 peaks challenge in aid of KD-UK. That said, planning for a major fundraising event in 2022 has been ongoing and charity funds continue to benefit from corporate donations toward this adventure as well as recurring donations from regular supporters, legacy payments and support from major organisations such as PayPal giving. We hope that 2022 will see more activity.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position
Total receipts for the year amounted to £14,868 (2020 - £44,631) and net incoming receipts were £10,193 (2020 - 39,675). Unrestricted reserves at 28th February 2021 amount to £139,191.
Reserves Policy
The Trustees have reviewed their policy, taking into account recommendations by the Charity Commission, so as to establish an acceptable level of reserves which is the cornerstone of the prudent financial management of the Charity. Because the Charity has no ongoing commitments and exists to raise funds and make grants from those funds there is little need for the reserves. At 28th February 2021 free reserves amounted to £130,341.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing Document
The Charity was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) on 9th March 2015 and commenced operations immediately.
Trustees
Trustees are elected and removed by the Board of Trustees. The maximum number of Trustees shall be 6 and the minimum shall be 4.
The Trustees who served during the year are listed on Page 1
The power to appoint new trustees is vested in the existing trustees. Future trustees will be selected to ensure the board maintains a suitable mix of skills and experience to continue its work and will be given an appropriate induction into the Charity. Trustees attend training courses where it is considered necessary.

Major Risks

STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES' RESPONSIBILITIES
The Trustees are required under Charity law to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of the affairs of the Charity and of the financial activities of the Charity for that period. In preparing those financial statements, the Trustees are required to:
-
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
-
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
-
state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departure disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and
-
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the company will continue in business.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Charity and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with applicable laws and regulations. They are also responsible for ensuring that the Charity maintains an adequate system of internal control designed to provide reasonable assurance that assets are safeguarded against loss or unauthorised use and to prevent and detect fraud and other irregularities.

Dear Trustees
KD-UK, Kennedy's Disease UK
Charity Accounts – Period Ended 28 February 2021
Thank you for providing the additional information I required; this has enabled me to finalise the accounts which I enclose herewith for your review and approval.
I am also pleased to report that we were able to resolve all queries that arose during the accounts preparation process.
My comments are as follows:
-
Receipts for the year were £14,868 (this compares to £44,631 for the previous year).
-
Net increase in funds was £10,193 (this compares to £39,675 for the previous year).
-
Net assets at the year end were £139,191 (this compares to £128,998 at the previous year end). This indicates the amount of profit generated at the year end that has been left in the company.
-
In the Report for the Trustees, under Structure, Governance and Management there is a paragraph which states the maximum number of Trustees will be 6 but there are currently 7. Later in that section there is a further paragraph stating that “The Board of Trustees continue look to recruit new trustees”. If you would like any amendments to any of the wording in the Report for the Trustees, please let me know.
Please read carefully through the accounts to ensure that they are complete and correct to the best of your knowledge and belief and if the accounts meet with your approval, please click “sign” to electronically approve the accounts.
If you have any queries and/or would like a meeting to discuss the accounts in detail before signing then please contact my office to arrange a mutually convenient appointment. However, if you feel that a meeting is not necessary, then please let me know.

KD-UK, Kennedy's Disease UK Independent Examiner's Report To the trustees of KD-UK, Kennedy's Disease UK
I report on my examination of the accounts which consist of the Receipts and Payments Account, Statement of assets and liabilities and Reconciliation of changes in bank and cash balances for the year ended 28 February 2021
Responsibilities of trustees and examiner
As the charity trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act'). I report in respect of my examination of the Charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charities Comminssion under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Basis of independent examiner's statement
My examination included a review of the accounting records kept by the trustees and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also included consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as members concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a "true and fair view" and the report is limited to the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in any material respect:
-
(i) the general requirements to keep accounting records in accordance with UK accounting principles have not been met
-
(ii) attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached
