Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
The object of the CIO is to promote social
inclusion for the public benefit by preventing
people, particularly but not exclusively men aged
18 or over, within Newport, Shropshire and the
surrounding area, from becoming socially
excluded, relieving the needs of those people who
are socially excluded and assisting them to
integrate into society through the provision of
facilities in which they can meet to undertake
creative, physical or recreational activities, learn
or pass on skills and knowledge, and support
each other socially.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
Para
1.77 and
1.19
We believe it Is important to encourage social
interaction between our members and the local
community to prevent them from becoming
socially excluded. We have achieved that by
getting involved in a number of community events
and projects. These have included, with an
emphasis on the ecology,
Making benches for an ecological trail in a
local parish wildlife area
An eco garden for a primary school to teach
the young children gardening and the
importance of biodiversity.
A "buddy" bench for a local school to improve
wellbeing.
Various Bat boxes, Bird Boxes, Bee and Bug
hotels, planters and raised beds for a number
of local community group and individuals
providing volunteers for the Telford Repair
Café, repairing items from the public which
would otherwise go to waste and thus we

protecting the environment for the public
benefit.
We continued to maintain our walled garden
producing a wide variety of fruit and
vegetables for the benefit of our members and
the local community. Gardening is a great
activity for our men's health, both physical and
mental, and contributes greatly to our main
purpose of encouraging social interaction.
alleviating loneliness and social isolation.
We continue to seek additional accommodation to
provide a specialised woodworking workshop to
enhance our offering and provide an additional
income to su
ort our charitable
ur￿OSe.
The trustees confirm they have had due regard to
the guidance issued by the Charity Commission

Para

New members joining and members leaving
remained broadly neutral meaning our
membership numbers were steady at around 30
which is at, or near, our complement, given our
limited resources in terms of space and facilities.
Our total "contact" time in 2024 was 7,500 hours
which is similar to our contact time in 2023.
Research commissioned by the UK Men's Shed
Association has shown a direct benefit to shed
members who have reported feeling much less
lonely since joining the shed. There is no doubt
that staying active, learning new skills and
contributing to the community are beneficial to
mental health and wellbeing.
