The objéct of the CIO is to promote social
indusion for the public benefit by preventing
people. particulady but not exclusively men
aged 18 or over, wthin Newport. Shropshire
and the surrounding area. from becoming
socially excluded. relieving the needs of
those people who are socially excluded and
assisting them to integrate into socsety
through the provision of facilities in which
they can meet to undertake creative,
physical or recreational activities, leam or
pass on skills and knowledge, and support
eath other socially.

We continued to encourage social interadion
between our members and the loGal
ommunty by attending and assisting in a
number of communty events. Our members
particulady benefit from putting their skills
and experien￿ into constructing items for
the benefft of the local community. These

Our gardening team constructed a patio
area with planters for the local scout
group and a junior school to encourage
them to develop gardening skn-lls and look
after the environment.
We continued to maintain our walled
garden producing a wide variety of fruit
and vegetables for the benefit of our
members and the local community.
Gardening is a great activity for our
men's health. both physical and mental,
and contributes greatly to our main
purpose of encouraging social
interaction. alleviating loneliness and
social isolation.
We continue to seek additional
accommi)dation to proV￿e a specialised
woodworking workshop to enhance our
offering and provide an addrtional income to

rt our charitable
ose.

SORP referen
Our membership numbers remained steady
at 30 which is at or near our complement,
given our limtted resources in terms of
Spa￿ and facilities. Our total "contact. time
in 2023 was 7,500 hours Compared with
6,400 hours contact time in 2022.
Research commissioned by the UK Men's
Shed Association has shown a direct
benefft to shed members who have
reported feeling much less lonely sin
joining the shed. There is no doubt that
staying active. leaming new skills and
contributing to the communrty are beneficial
to mental heatth and wellbeing.

Review of the charity's
financial position at the end

Our Gross income for the period totalled
£7944. derived mainly from our members
subscriptions but including donations
towards material costs and a small amount
from the local communty lottery. Our total
expenditure was £5873 made up of running
costs for insuran￿. stationery, domestic,
workshop and garden supplies. members
morale, and Maintenan￿ and repla￿ment
of tools and equipment. The surplus of
£2,000 will be allocated to our reserves.
The trustees have agreed to build up a
reserve for contingency and to set up and
equip an addrtional workshop to expand our
woodwork facilities to beneftt our members
and the local Gommunit
