becoming socially excluded, relieving the needs of those people who are
socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society through the
provision of faalities in which they can meet to undertake creative,
physical or recreational activtties, leam or pass on skills and knowledge,
and support each other sooally.
Summary ofthe objects ofthe
charity set out in its
governing document
TAR
March 2012

ThroughoLrt this period the trustees have been mindful of the guidance
issued by the Charity Commission on Public Benefit.
Our focus has remained to provide faciltties to enable men to meet to
undertake activities. indNidually or jointly, pass on skills and knowledge
and generally support each other socially to prevent and alleviate their
loneliness and social isolation. This has a wjsttive effect on their health
and wellbeing and reduces the need for medical intervention with
consequential savings of public reSoUr￿s.
Summary of the main
activities undertaken for the
public benefit in relation to
these objects {include within
this section the statutory
declaration that trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit)

Section D
Achievements and performance ,.
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity
during the year
We were able to re-start operations earfy in 2022 following the enforced
dosures and restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic. We continued to
encourage social interaction belween our members and the local
communty by attending communty events such as the Grow Local
initiative, the Coracle Trust Regatta. and the Safer Communities event.
Our members particularfy benefit from putting their skills and experience
into constructing tiems for the benefft of the local community. These have
included
Designing and construch.ng a kitchen garden for the cinema charity
Constructing screens for the Autistic Childrens Charrty
Designing and constructing a Tombola to assist the local food bank in
their fund-raising efforts.
providing volunteers for the Telford Repair Café, repairing items for
reuse arKI saving them going to waste and protecting the
environment for the public tenefit
Gardening is recognised as an important contributor to heatth and
wellbeing. particularly mental health. so our walled garden is an important
resource for us. An additional benefrt has been that we have been able to
donate fresh vegetable produ￿ to the local communty café who are a
small chartty providing positive social benefft to the area.
We saw our membership increase from 27 to 30 by the year end
reflecting our successful approath and the greater need in society for
servitss such as ours. In October 2022, ONS Data shows a marked
increase in the percentage of men suffertng from moderate to severe
symptoms of depression compared to pr& Covid levels. Our Men's Shed
has gone some way to alleviate the impact on our beneficiaries.
Our plans for 2023 are to maintain our membership levels and the
number and variety of activities we provide. We continue to seek
addttional accommodats.on to provide a specialised woodworking
workshop to enhance our offering and provide an additional income to
support our charitable purpose.
