## **iiChild General Report 2022**

iiChild is a youth organisation founded by Elaine Joseph. It became a registered charity in 2014.

After two years of Covid-19 lockdown and social restrictions iiChild reopened at the Pelier Hall SE 17, near the Brandon Estate, Walworth.

iiChild relaunched the Parent and Toddler Group in September 2021 after undergoing an organisational restructure and culture change. A new volunteer staff member was recruited who took the allergy course. Working with the new volunteers and parents have created a more inclusive environment. We celebrated the birthday of a three-year-old from Ecuador and became a “Warm Hub” every Thursday from 10am to 1:30 pm. iiChild extended its presence in the community and has built relationships with hard-to-reach groups. The attendees of the Parent and Toddler Group are from a wide mix of ethnic minorities, including those from Eastern Europe, South America, and the Muslim community, who share with us their EID celebration.

At the request of the parents, the Parent Group hosted two Family Camps, one in February and the other in April. The Family Camps were held during half-term holidays, three days a week from 11am to 3pm. The Family Camps were specifically for parents, babies, and their siblings in primary school. The activities we offered were Sponge Bob crafts, Stickle-bricks, magnetic shapes, moving animals, play dough, cat craft, mask colouring, group painting, Snap-On-bracelets, sock painting, board games. In the afternoon the parents and children were asked to find a list of landmarks in the community. We had games and a party to end each week. Each day we sat down and shared a meal together. The Family Camp was free to

the parents and their children. The families that came greatly appreciated the Family Camp.

## **Enterprise Against Crime October Camp**

The iiChild camp was open to children and young people from the ages of 5 years – 16-year-olds.

In preparation for the October Camp the volunteer staff were asked to present an up- to-date DBS certificate. Members took part in three weeks of training during September.

The training delivered included:

- Managing expectations of the volunteers and the young persons’ attending the camp

- Safeguarding Understanding the scheme of works

- Health and safety

- Risks

The volunteers were also encouraged to take advantage of the courses available from the local council in respect to food hygiene and allergies. Among the volunteer staff members there are a number with GDPR, Safeguarding and first aid qualifications.

The iiChild camp in October was held over five days, three days for on-site activities and two days for outings, 10am to 4pm. There was a full programme of activities which included the outings to the cinema, soft play, and bowling in Lewisham, on these days a packed lunch was provided by the organisation.

The children and young people took part in arts and crafts projects where they made cardboard cut-outs of cats and dolls where they could design clothes for the dolls. They also made Sponge Bobs, Snap-On-bracelets, and painted socks. There were indoor and outdoor games as well as other group

activities such as painting and drawing. The children and young people had a chance to make their own pizzas which they took home to cook. Meals were freshly prepared and cooked on-site as a chef was available for the camp. There was a small fee for the week.

## **Finances**

Thank you to the Community Lottery Fund for sponsoring the October Camp

Thank you to our supporters for the financial gifts and items in kind that has enabled us to meet the needs of so many.

## **Queen’s Jubilee**

In June as part of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations at Pelier Hall, iiChild was invited by the Tenants and Residents Association (TRA) to meet the community. The TRA provided a table stand in Pelier Gardens where iiChild volunteers and CEO, Elaine Joseph spoke with the residents.

The final event of 2022 was a Christmas Party for the Parent and Toddlers Group. It was a small affair with a dinner for all guests and the children were provided with free books.

## **Future iiChild**

iiChild is looking forward to a continued presence in the community and is exploring options for future funding. There is currently a go-fund page which iiChild hopes to expand and further development to establish the iiChild website is also anticipated. Please go to iichildlondon Facebook for information on the Parent and Toddler’s Group any up-coming events.

iiChild will be planning further opportunities to meet with the community and TRA through activities celebrating various World days, and outdoor events in the Pelier Hall Gardens.

iiChild has been approached by a local school seeking work experience placements for some of its students. iiChild is happy to support the young people and has welcomed this approach.
