Introduction
Our Annual Report highlights the differences we have made to the community of Ystradgynlais and neighbouring communities across Powys and Neath Port Talbot during the year 1st April 2021 to 31st March 2022
Who we are
YVC is a registered charity. We work with volunteers and the third sector to improve the wellbeing of people in Ystradgynlais and neighbouring communities. Together we aim to build a rich and vibrant community through our work in Volunteering and Recycling.
Collaboration
- We know first hand that for voluntary organisations to meet the challenges of the future we must work together, to organise and look ahead to prepare for the future. We continued to collaborate and connect with local people, organisations and services through strong partnerships.

Trustees’ Report
Welcome to YVC annual report for 2021-2022. Last years report highlighted the challenges of Covid which continued to have some impact on the work of the Centre throughout the period of this report. During this post pandemic period, spaces were reorganised and the number of volunteers continued to grow.
As trustees we would like to thank staff and volunteers for their ongoing commitment and dedication to the Centre and are proud to play a key role in supporting members of the local area.
The achievements of YVC during the period 21-22 are set out in this report but we would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the main areas of focus. Before detailing these, we trustees would like to acknowledge the hard work undertaken by Ian Hawkins, Donna Davies, Alison Rodwell, Sally Speedy, Hywel Jopling, Bex Elliott, Sam Howard and Carol Gordon for building firm foundations for the continuing growth of the Centre.
Looking forward we will see further development and consolidation of current achievements at YVC. A new branding identity which better reflects the work and activities at the Centre is being developed. The community cafe and warm bank are developing well as are a variety of public workshops. In these uncertain times, the numbers using the food bank continue to grow as do donations. The location of the food bank is changing within the centre to provide a more discrete service for the public. Working with Community Dreams, more than fifty Christmas hampers were delivered along with gifts for children and adults. The Community Garden is coming on well with produce to be used in the cafe and food bank. The process of opening a Mens Shed has begun. It will be open to all genders and use an existing space within the centre. All these activities will offer opportunities to develop relationships with new partners for long term sustainable projects.
Volunteering
A vibrant and enriched community is where every person feels connected to their community through active participation in volunteer related activities - YVC promotes the value of volunteering and enhances the range and quality of volunteering opportunities and experience.
Our Achievements
Over the reporting period 75 volunteers were placed in the community. The diversity and support that volunteers provided to local business and community projects has made a real difference.
75 new volunteers were placed in various volunteering positions in 2021/2022

A social enterprises helps to create employment, help to improve people’s life chances, provide training and employment opportunities, support communities and help the environment.
Helping those in most need
We are regularly called on to support social services and community partners in rehousing a cross section of people from, families in crisis, to those needing emergency new housing because of; domestic violence, eviction - to people who are destitute and have had to flee their homelands (immigration) so as to avoid persecution. Over the year we have helped many families in need through: the provision of household furniture, bedding, clothes and other support. We also ensure families are signposted to other agencies and support groups for financial and other help. We also make a valued contribution to assist integration people into the community.
Ethical & Sustainable Purchasing - Buying Preowned Items
We promote conscious purchasing choices to encourage consumers to make environmental choices.
Ystradgynlais Foodbank
