## **About Baggy Trousers UK**
## **What We Do**
Raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of testicular cancer, actively promoting the benefits of early detection and encouraging boys and men to visit their GP if they detect any of the signs or symptoms.
Deliver engaging awareness talks and showcase awareness exhibitions/stands in public and corporate places, handing out self-help materials such as leaflets, posters and step-by-step checking cards.
Provide financial and peer support to boys and men who have been directly affected by testicular cancer via telephone, email, social media and peer support groups.
## **What difference do we make?**
1. People are becoming more aware of testicular cancer and their health in general.
2. Through personal experiences, we inspire and encourage people to check themselves and visit their GP. This could prevent more serious cases or even death.
3. Provide financial and peer support to those directly affected by testicular cancer, which relieves stress and worry.
## **Charitable Aims**
1. To promote and protect the physical and mental health of sufferers of testicular cancer.
2. To provide financial assistance, support, education and practical advice to those affected by testicular cancer.
3. To advance the education of the general public in all areas relating to testicular cancer.
## **Mission Statement**
“Baggy Trousers UK exists to make a positive impact on the lives of boys and men affected by testicular cancer.”

Apart from the first charity trustees, every trustee must be appointed for a term of 1 year by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. In selecting individuals for appointment as charity trustees, the charity trustees must have regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO.
## **Policy**
**Charity reserve:** The charity aims to hold 3 months of running costs as a reserve. Currently, all income is invested in our continuous efforts to provide support and educate males on testicular cancer.
**Charity expenditure:** Cash expenditure supports our key objectives and so the cash that we spend must contribute to providing support to males that have been diagnosed and raising awareness of testicular cancer; this includes all our fundraising, events, activities and charity development.
**Equality:** We believe in equality in treatment and opportunity regardless of age, sex, religion, culture or colour of skin.
**Founding principle:** Irrespective of race, religion, age or ability, our founding principle is to educate every person, regarding testicular cancer.
**Complaints policy:** The Senior Management Team will deal with complaints in the first instance. If this fails to reach a resolution, the board will be advised, and the Chairperson will take over the complaint, where necessary legal advice will be sought.

## **Successful Partnerships and Achievements**
The therapy programme funded by Robinsons Brewery and the Tim Bacon Foundation in the previous year had shown us just how much that kind of support means to people going through a testicular cancer diagnosis. We didn't want it to end there. This year, we applied to The National Lottery Community Fund, Awards for All, to continue offering funded therapy sessions. A decision is expected in April 2024, and if the application is successful, it would mean a further two years of funded therapy for the people who need it.
Harry Johns joined our board of trustees in March 2024, and we're glad to have him with us.
## **Challenges and Operational Adjustments**
Losing the funded therapy sessions at the end of 2022-23 was difficult. It meant stepping back from a service we knew was making a real difference to people's lives. The trustees focused on keeping the rest of our work going while pursuing funding to bring it back, and we've been careful to make sure that everything we spend is in service of the people we're here for.
## **Outreach and Community Engagement**
Awareness work picked up this year. We delivered talks in schools, workplaces, and colleges — in person and online — and ran a number of campaigns to help people recognise the signs of testicular cancer and know where to turn if they have concerns. The response from communities across the region has been encouraging, and it's clear there is real appetite for this kind of open conversation.
Our phone and email support stayed available throughout the year, as it always does, for anyone who needed to talk.
## **Public Benefit Through Our Activities**
Getting information to more people remains one of the most important things we do. If someone checks themselves because they saw one of our posts, or visits their GP sooner because they attended one of our talks, that matters. Digital and printed resources were shared widely this year — with schools, universities, businesses, and community organisations across the region.

For those who've received a diagnosis, our support services — phone, email, and Zoom — continued to offer a space to talk with people who understand what they're going through.
## **Service Utilisation and Impact**
We supported around 20% more people this year than the year before. That's not just a number — it represents individuals who reached out, often in the middle of something frightening, and who we were able to help. There is still a great deal of unmet need, and that keeps us focused on the work.
## **Gratitude and Acknowledgment**
Thank you to everyone who has supported Baggy Trousers UK this year — those who donated, those who gave their time, and those who simply spread the word. Every bit of it helps.
We're hopeful about the outcome of our application to The National Lottery Community Fund, Awards for All. Whatever the result, this work continues.

## **1. Accounting Policies**
## **Basis of preparation**
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2015) - (Charities SORP (FRS 102)), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).
The Charity meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy note(s).
The Charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation
## **Income**
Income is recognised when the charity has entitlement to the funds, any performance conditions attached to the item(s) of income have been met, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
Legacies are included in the SOFA when receipt is probable, that is, when there has been grant of probate, the executors have established that there are sufficient assets in the estate and any conditions attached to the legacy are either within the control of the charity or have been met.
Income received in advance of the provision of specified services it is deferred until the criteria for income recognition is met.
## **Interest Receivable**
Interest on funds held on deposit is included when receivable and the amount can be measured reliably by the charity: this is normally upon notification of the interest paid or payable by the bank.
## **Fund Accounting**
Unrestricted funds are available to spend on activities that further any of the purposes of the charity. Designated funds are unrestricted funds of the charity which the trustees have decided at their discretion to set aside to use for a specific purpose. Restricted funds are donations which the donor has specified are to be solely used for a particular purpose / area of the charity's work or for specific projects.
## **Expenditure and Irrecoverable VAT**
Expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation to make a payment to a third party, it is probable that settlement will be required and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Irrecoverable VAT is charged as a cost against the activity for which the expenditure was incurred.
## **Tangible Fixed Assets**
Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulative depreciation and any accumulative impairment losses. Assets over £100 are capitalised. Depreciation is provided on all tangible fixed assets, other than freehold land, at rates calculated to write off the cost, less estimated residual value, of each asset evenly over its expected useful life, as follows:

## **Cash at bank and in hand**
Cash at bank and cash in hand includes cash and short term highly liquid investments with a short maturity of three months or less from the date of acquisition or opening of the deposit or similar account.
## **Creditors**
Creditors and provisions are recognised where the charity has a present obligation resulting from a past event that will probably result in the transfer of funds to a third party and the amount due to settle the obligation can be measured or estimated reliably. Creditors and provisions are normally recognised at their settlement amount after allowing for any trade discounts due.
## **Trustees Remuneration**
None of the Trustees or related parties received any remuneration or benefit from the charity during the year and no expenses were reimbursed.
## **Employee Costs and Benefits**
No staff were employed by the charity in the accounting period. No other benefits were received by staff during the account period.
