## **About Baggy Trousers UK**
## **What We Do**
Raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of testicular cancer, actively
promoting the benefits of early detection and encouraging boys and men to visit their GP if they detect any of the signs or symptoms.
Deliver engaging awareness talks and showcase awareness exhibitions/stands in public and corporate places handing out self-help materials such as leaflets, posters and step-by-step checking cards.
Provide financial and peer support to boys and men who have been directly affected by testicular cancer via telephone, email, social media and peer support group.
## **What difference do we make?**
1. People are becoming more aware of testicular cancer and their health in general.
2. Through personal experiences we inspire and encourage people to check themselves and visit their GP, this could prevent more serious cases or even
death.
3. Provide financial and peer support to those directly affected by testicular cancer which relieves stress and worry.
## **Charitable Aims**
1. To promote and protect the physical and mental health of sufferers of testicular cancer.
2. To provide financial assistance, support, education and practical advice to those affected by testicular cancer.
3. To advance the education of the general public in all areas relating to testicular cancer.

Apart from the first charity trustees, every trustee must be appointed for a term of 1 year by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. In selecting individuals for appointment as charity trustees, the charity trustees must have regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO.
## **Policy**
**Charity reserve:** The charity aims to hold 3 months running costs as a reserve. Currently, all income is invested into our continuous efforts to provide support and educate males on testicular cancer.
**Charity expenditure:** Cash expenditure supports our key objectives and so the cash that we spend must contribute to providing support to males that have been diagnosed and raising awareness of testicular cancer; this includes all our fundraising, events, activities and charity development.
**Equality:** We believe in equality in treatment and opportunity regardless of age, sex, religion, culture or colour of skin.
**Founding principle:** Irrespective of race, religion, age or ability, our founding principle is to educate every male, and his partner, regarding the various male cancers.
**Complaints policy:** The Senior Management Team will deal with complaints in the first instance, if this fails to reach a resolution the board will be advised and the Chairperson will take over the complaint, where necessary legal advice will be sought.

## **Trustees’ Annual Report**
We started this year at the beginning of the global pandemic and very quickly had to adapt our way of working, all of our activities were moved to virtual and any awareness engagements had to be either changed to virtual or cancelled.
We had a number of fundraising events planned during this year, we had to cancel them and fundraisers that had signed up to challenge events were unable to take part due to those events being cancelled. As with many charities during this difficult time, we saw a huge impact to our fundraising and collectively decided to reduce our overheads where possible to ensure the organisation survived the impact of COVID-19 on the charity sector.
The trustees decided to take stock of what we had achieved since setting up in 2014 and put together a working strategy moving forwards around how we want to continue raising awareness and providing support beyond the pandemic.
We had a number of people that continued to support the work we do, these can be found below. We would like to say a big thank you all those that fundraised to support the work we do during the year:
- A total of £1,582 was raised through JustGiving during the year.
- John Hurley raised £275.00 by growing his moustache during the month of November
- Matt, Matt and Michael raised £800.00 in their efforts to take on the Two Ball Rally, unfortunately it was postponed due to COVID-19, they’re aiming to continue fundraising throughout the year.
- Cris Sutera raised £385.00
- We received a generous donation from G.E.M.S of £500
- Jack Hinton organised the Baggy Trousers concert which took place on Thursday December 3rd at Above the Stag theatre in London. Raising an amazing £283.25.

## **How our activities deliver public benefit**
This year we ran a series of online campaigns. We produced a digital resource that was distributed to schools, colleges, universities and businesses, raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of testicular cancer and the importance of regularly self-checking.
We provided online support via Zoom and telephone to around 35 males impacted by testicular cancer, the support has helped towards improving their mental health and reduced social isolation.
## **Who used and benefited from our services**
Students from schools, colleges and universities in and around the North West of England have engaged with our awareness campaigns and virtual talks. We continued to work closely with the public sector and businesses around England and Wales.
People impacted by testicular cancer have engaged with our support services, albeit virtually, this was a lifeline to some of the people that reached out during the pandemic.
We’re forever grateful for everything we have received this year, from time, skills, money and general support with the day to day running of the organisation.

## A message from our Chair
Whilst the pandemic has had an impact on the amount of impact we could’ve had we’re going into 2021/22 in a strong position, as things begin to get back to some form of normality we’re hoping to be able to start introducing in person awareness talks and providing support to those impact by testicular cancer in person.
We have agreed a plan for the next 12 months which involves slowly rebuilding the organisation, this includes hiring 2 part time staff members, specifically to support with the operations and comms/marketing.
We will be introducing a therapy programme for those impacted by testicular cancer, this will be on a referral basis, we’re aiming to have an approved list of counsellors/therapists by September 2021, we can then begin referring people for counselling sessions funded by Baggy Trousers UK. This is with the hope that it will enable people to get the specialist support they need.
We will be doing another round of recruitment for new trustees to help steer the organisation to grow and have a bigger impact.
I know I said this last year but I would like to say it again. The work we do would not be possible without the generosity of everyone that has supported us and all of our wonderful volunteers.

## **1 Summary of significant accounting policies**
## _**Basis of preparation**_
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2015) - (Charities SORP (FRS 102)), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).
The Charity meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy note(s).
## _**Income**_
Income is recognised when the charity has entitlement to the funds, any performance conditions attached to the item(s) of income have been met, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
Income from government and other grants, whether ‘capital’ grants or ‘revenue’ grants, is recognised when the charity has entitlement to the funds, any performance conditions attached to the grants have been met, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably and is not deferred.
For legacies, entitlement is taken as the earlier of the date on which either: the charity is aware that probate has been granted, the estate has been finalised and notification has been made by the executor(s) to the Trust that a distribution will be made, or when a distribution is received from the estate. Receipt of a legacy, in whole or in part, is only considered probable when the amount can be measured reliably and the charity has been notified of the executor’s intention to make a distribution. Where legacies have been notified to the charity, or the charity is aware of the granting of probate, and the criteria for income recognition have not been met, then the legacy is a treated as a contingent asset and disclosed if material.
Income received in advance of the provision of specified services it is deferred until the criteria for income recognition is met.
## _**Donates services and facilities**_
Donated professional services and donated facilities are recognised as income when the charity has control over the item, any conditions associated with the donated item have been met, the receipt of economic benefit from the use by the charity of the item is probable and that economic benefit can be measured reliably. In accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102), general volunteer time is not recognised.
On receipt, donated professional services and donated facilities are recognised on the basis of the value of the gift to the charity which is the amount the charity would have been willing to pay to obtain services or facilities of equivalent economic benefit on the open market; a corresponding amount is then recognised in expenditure in the period of receipt.
## _**Interest receivable**_
Interest on funds held on deposit is included when receivable and the amount can be measured reliably by the charity; this is normally upon notification of the interest paid or payable by the Bank.

## _**Fund accounting**_
Unrestricted funds are available to spend on activities that further any of the purposes of charity. Designated funds are unrestricted funds of the charity which the trustees have decided at their discretion to set aside to use for a specific purpose. Restricted funds are donations which the donor has specified are to be solely used for particular areas of the Charity's work or for specific projects being undertaken by the Charity.
## _**Expenditure and irrecoverable VAT**_
Expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation to make a payment to a third party, it is probable that settlement will be required and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably.
Irrecoverable VAT is charged as a cost against the activity for which the expenditure was incurred.
## _**Tangible fixed assets**_
Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulative depreciation and any accumulative impairment losses. Assets over £100 are capitalised
Depreciation is provided on all tangible fixed assets, other than freehold land, at rates calculated to write off the cost, less estimated residual value, of each asset evenly over its expected useful life, as follows:

## _**Debtors**_
Trade and other debtors are recognised at the settlement amount due after any trade discount offered. Prepayments are valued at the amount prepaid net of any trade discounts due.
## _**Cash at bank and in hand**_
Cash at bank and cash in hand includes cash and short term highly liquid investments with a short maturity of three months or less from the date of acquisition or opening of the deposit or similar account.
## _**Creditors**_
Creditors and provisions are recognised where the charity has a present obligation resulting from a past event that will probably result in the transfer of funds to a third party and the amount due to settle the obligation can be measured or estimated reliably. Creditors and provisions are normally recognised at their settlement amount after allowing for any trade discounts due.
