Derwentside Trust for the year ending 31 March 2025. This year has been one of
meaningful progress and growing community engagement. Despite continuing
social and economic pressures affectlng many local residents, our charity has
remained resilient. self-sufficient, and committed to its core purpose - to support,
strengthen, and serve the Defwentside community.
W6 are partlcularly proud of the developments achleved withln our Commun5ty
Kitchen and Café, the contlnued success of our Community Pantry and Clothes
Bank. and our expanding nehvork of partners and support services operating from
Glenroyd House.

Governance and Structuro
Derwentslde Trust revlews all policies and procedures annually, with formal
confimiation taking place at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) each May.
The charity is governed by four Twstees and supported by one Director of the
limited company, registered with Companies House under registration number

provide ongoing advice, guidance. and monitoring in relation to health and safety
compliance and Ihe continued suitsbility of our premises for public use.

Communlty Developm•nt and Actlvltles
The financial year endlng March 2025 has seen significant development and
growth across several key projects.
Our Communty Kitchen and Café has progressed substantially and is on track to
open by July 2025. Extensive refurbishment work has been completed within the
kitchen faclllties at Glenroyd House, and planning is underway to introduce a
community-focused menu and regular meal provision for local residents. The
initiative will play an important role in supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable
individuals, helping to reduce food insecurity and social Isolatlon.
Our Community Panty continues to experience increased demarKI, reflecting the
growing needs of local families and individuals. We have seen a notable rise in
requests for food parcels and essential supplles. Similarly, our Clothes Bank has
expanded its reach, provlding practical support, clothing, and assistance to those
in financial hardship or experienciro homelessness.
The Trust remains dedicated to offerlng help, advlce, guidance, and slgnposting
to professional and specialist services, ensuring every individual who comes
through our doors receives meaningful support and connection to further
assistance.
Facllltles, Operatlons and Partnershlps
Derwentside Trust holds a full maintenance and repair lease on its premises,
providing a strong foundation for growth and long-term community benefit. The
35-year lease gives the charity security of tenure and enables strategic
investment in the development of new facilities and services.

The Trustees have undertaken a full review of the charity's flnancial position and
governance arrangements. It is not deemed that there are any significant risks
currently affecting the charity.
Derwentside Trust remains ffinancially self-sufficient, achieving a modest surplus
during the financial year. surplus funds are Teinvested to support ongoing
community projects. rna1ntenan￿, and future s8rvice developmenl.
The Trustses are satisfied that the charity is operating within its me8ns,
maintsining sound financial controls, and adhering to all relevant statutory and
regulatory requirements.

Derwentside Trust plays a vital role in supporting the people of Consett, the
Derwent Valley, and the surroundlng communities including Dipton, Stanley, and
Burnopfield. The Trust's mission is to strengthen community w911being. reduce
social isolatlon, and create opportunltles for individuals to thrive through access
to education, tralnlng, and essentlal support services.
The Trust provkles affordable room hlre and accommodation at Glenroyd House,
which seNes as a central hub for community actlvlty and engagement. These
facilities are regularly used by a wide range of local organlsatlons, community
groups, and training providers for meetings. social gatherings, and personal and
professional development programmes. Through this provlslon. the Trust
enables local residents to connect. learn, and participate in aclivilk8S that
improve their quality of life and employment prospects.
A key part of the Trust's work focuses on helping people move closer to
8mployment through training, guidance. and access to job search resources.
The Trust actively slgnposts individuals to tralnlng and development
opportunities, working In collaboration with education providers. local émployers,

Derwentside Trust has continued to make strong progress throughout
202412025, bullding on its commitment to support the people of Consett, the
Derwent Valley, and the wider surrounding areas induding Dipton, Stanley, and
Bumopfield. This has been a year of meanlngful development, community
engagement, and preparation for the launch of our much-anticipated Community
Kitchen.
The Twst has remained focused on its central purpose - to serve the local
community through the provision of facilities. tralnSng. and support aimed at
improving wellbeing. reducing isolation. and helping individuals and families in
need. We have contlnued to operale to a high stsndard, preparing and delivering
food parcels for vulnerable people and those facing financial hardship through
our Community Pantry. Alongside this. our Clothes Bank has provided vital
SUPF*)rt to families and individuals requiring essential cbthing and everyday
items.
We have worked closely wlth Durham County Council to dellver Fun and Food
activities durlng school holidays. providing nutritious meals and engaging
sessions for children 8nd families, includlng those eligible for free school meals.
These programmes have been very successful and continue to grow in
popularity and community impact. We also work in partnership with the Derwent
Valley Area Acllon Partnershlp to deliver a range of initiatives InclLKling
employment support courses, Minl Medics first aid session8, and personalised
help with benefll applic8tions, Job searches, and other social support needs.
These activities have made a real difference In helping local resSdents to bulld
Skills, access employment, and Improve thelr overall quality of life.
The highlight of the coming year will be the completlon and opening of the
Communlty Kitchen and Café, which wlll enable the Trust to provide regular
community meals and additional support seNices from Glenroyd House. This
project represents a signlficant milestone and will strengthen our capacty to
respond to local need. promote social inclusion, and reduce food poverty.
Durlng the year, we have also made significant progress in promotlng Glenroyd
House and raising awareness of the services we provide. P18ns are In place for
new website, improved social media presence, and a refreshed brand identity
to increase visibility and engagement. Our goal is to firmly establish Glenroyd
House as a recognised community hub at the heart of Derwentside, where
people can access information, support, ar￿ opportunltlès.
The Trust continues to benefit from its long-term lease, which provides stsbility
and allows us to apply for external grants and funding to further develop and
improve our facillties. This will enable greater public access and help us to
expand the range of services we can provide.
A partlcular highlight of the year was the Glenroyd Grotto, a much-loved
community event that has now become a key part of our annu81 calendar. The
Grotto Is provided completely free of charge to low-income families and those
most in need within our communty. It offers children and their families a magical
Christmas experience at a time of year that can be especially difficult for many.
Through our Glenroyd Toy Appeal, we were able to provide gifts for local
children who might otherwise go without. In addition, the Trust provlded
Christmas lunch food parcels for families. ensurfrKJ that everyone could enjoy a
fesb've meal and spend precious time together durlng the holiday season. The
Glenroyd Grotto has grown each year and now represents one of our most
meaningful community initiatiV8s. embodying the Trust's commitment to care,
compassion. arKI togelherness.
Vthlle this has been another challenging year. it has also been one of great
progress and community achievemenl. The Trustees are proud of the continued
grovl(h of the Trust and the impact of its seniices. The development of the
Community Kitchen has faced unavoidable delays due to unforeseen
circumstsnces, but we remain confident that it will soon be completed and will

We wish to express our sincere gratitude to all those who have supported
