SYRESHAM VILLAGE HALL ANNUAL REPORT 2024
Syresham Village Hall, Main Road Syresham, a CIO charity with the registration number 1160674, has now been open for almost 6 years. The hall is owned and run by the CIO. The hall is insured by Zurich, and our cover includes all the appropriate liabilities, including that of our members and trustees.
Our aim is the provision and maintenance of a village hall for the inhabitants of Syresham and the surrounding area, without distinction of gender or political, religious or other opinions. It is used for meetings and classes and other forms of recreation and leisure activities and events, with the aim of improving the lives of the aforementioned inhabitants. As I have said many times before, it is important that we remind ourselves of this at all times, so that we continue to ensure that we fulfil this aim.
The village hall continues to be well used by village organisations and people from the surrounding area. In order to aid the work of our Booking Clerk and keep a tighter control on bookings we decided that we would restrict bookings to within a 10 mile radius of the village. This seems to be working well. I would like to thank Gary Mitchell our Booking Clerk and his assistant Steph Mitchell for the excellent work they are doing.
Last year we held our annual Scarecrow Festival and, after careful deliberation, we decided that 2023 would be the final one. Fewer people were taking part and it was becoming harder to recruit volunteers, so we made the decision that the event had run its course. We also held our annual Art Exhibition which was very successful and will be held again in 2024. Our Coffee Shop has continued to thrive, thanks to the rota of volunteers who bake cakes and run the event each week. I would like to thank all those volunteers for the excellent service they provide, not only to the village hall, but to the village too.
I would also like to thank the all the Village Hall Trustees for the great work they have done to support and maintain the hall during the last year. As the hall has been open since 2018, we decided that a redecoration was due and I am sure you can now see how clean and fresh to hall is looking. Thanks to Mike Maund for leading this project.
Our accounts remain in a very healthy state and have been prepared by our Treasurer, Gill Swinford, and audited by Cathy Corns and I thank them both for this. However, it has to be pointed out that last year our hire income did not cover our running costs, which is something we aim to do every year. Our Treasurer will have more to say on this, but I just wish to state that this is something that we as Trustees are keeping a close eye on.
We continue to promote the hall on our website www.syreshamvillagehall.co.uk and our thanks go to Keith Watts for managing this website.
We, as Trustees of the village hall, are also very aware of the need to reduce our carbon footprint and therefore continue to finance a large blue recycling bin for the use of our hirers. We also have a facility to recycle clothes for the village to use. We continue to keep the installation of electric vehicle charging points and solar panels on our agenda for the future.
Our cleaner, Yvette Gardner, has continued to clean the hall and I thank Yvette for the excellent work she has done during the year.
We now look forward positively to what promises to be another busy and interesting year for the village hall and we sincerely thank everyone for their continued support.
