## **We planted 2021 trees**

Thanks to Wipro for the match funding project

We planted 2,021 trees in 2021 as part of our ‘Plant Trees Plant Hope’ campaign in a bid to build biodiversity, combat climate change and create green spaces in our local community. We planted oak, willow, alder, dog rose, hazel, hawthorn and blackthorn. We offer a variety of ways your company can get involved with us to plant trees as part of your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments or Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy.

Whatever your aims, we'll work together to devise a mutually-beneficial partnership and plan that helps enhance your brand and helps meet your CSR and sustainability objectives.

## **1966 volunteer hours given**

Our volunteer hours are now tracked through a new system TimeCounts which helps us to keep a record of who has volunteered and when. We now have 180 volunteers across a range of skills and experience. Some come regularly to our Tuesday and Friday Green Therapy sessions and others such as corporate volunteers come and help out with specific tasks such as hedge planting. We also have volunteers such as David Ball and Bill Blincoe who work on specific jobs. We pay tribute to all our volunteers who give their time and energy so readily which means that we can do ore work to boost biodiversity and give back to local communities. Special thanks to Phil and all at BAM for their continued support.

## **We held CSR team events**

We worked with a number of corporate groups to build teams, boost biodiversity and give back to the local community. Some of the organisations we have worked with in 2021 are below.

## **We dug two wildlife ponds**

Six barn owl chicks were raised in the box on the oak tree

We have begun the creation of ‘The Field of Life’, a green space which we are transforming into a biodiverse, wildlife rich area of beauty and tranquillity, with offgrid facilities to improve wellbeing.

We have dug and will manage two wildlife ponds to support great crested newts along with a range of other aquatic species including amphibians, invertebrates and plants.

The site lies in a strategic location for great crested newts as the species has been recorded locally (approximately 250 metres) from the site and there is good habitat connectivity. We have seeded two acres of the field with yellow rattle ready to seed with wildflowers next year.

## **We have a great team!**

We have a wonderful team who manage the projects, plant the trees, run the events, maintain the gardens, keep up with social media and manage to have fun and give back at the same time. Thanks to the hard work of Tom Donnison, we helped spread the message of health and wellbeing, biodiversity and positive change through our social media channels by reaching over 56,000 people in 2021.

## **NHS green spaces x 3**

We have turned other derelict, overgrown areas of the hospital into beautiful garden spaces by planting colourful plants to add visual beauty and increase the biodiversity of the area by attracting pollinators such a bees and butterflies. We have planted over 1,000 Spring bulbs to bring a burst of colours come the season. With help from our Green Therapy group we have placed self-watering planters around the hospital on concrete areas which desperately needed greenery and colour. We regularly maintain these self-watering planters by watering them once a week, weeding and replacing plants to suit the season. We have also brought life to some of the outdoor walls with hanging baskets.

**Trustee Annual Report 2021**

**FOREST OF HEARTS**

## **We plant living walls**

Our ‘Warwickshire Living Walls’ project will see us design and install 100 linear metres of living walls at hospitals and public access sites across Warwickshire. So far we have installed 26 linear metres.

## AIMS OF THE PROJECT

- Create greener spaces in urban environments.

- Improve air purification with species rich plants that absorb Particulate Matter and Nitrogen Dioxide to reduce harmful effects of traffic pollution in the atmosphere.
