## **Trustees Annual Report for The Peace Centre Uganda** 

## **Reporting period November 2024 to October 2025** 

- **Background** • The name of the charity is The Peace Centre Uganda (TPC). It was registered on 23[rd] February 2015, charity number 1160583. 

- • Address of principal office – 2 Beacon Walk, Tenterden, TN30 6SF Trustees for this reporting period: Anthony Reich – Chairperson. David Martin – Treasurer. Andy Clapperton – Public relations and marketing. Jenny Stevens – Secretary 

   - Trustee meetings are held by videoconference every 6 to 8 weeks. The agenda usually covers monthly report relating to the progress of the children, operational issues in Uganda and fundraising. The treasurer provides a financial report. 

   - • The Trustees are supported by Permanent Consultants who have relevant professional knowledge and skillsets 

   - TPC Uganda is a CIO, an NGO an Approved Home in Uganda. The constitution was last amended on 1[st] December 2014. The appointment of new Trustees is arrived at by the existing Trustees. 

   - Charity’s Mission Statement: Love, care and a home for Ugandan orphans. 

   - • Objects of The Peace Centre: 1. To promote the benefit of orphaned and vulnerable children and young people living at The Peace Centre in Bukinda, South West Uganda by: 

         - a) The advancement of education and training. 

         - b) The relief of poverty, sickness 

         - c) The promotion of good health 

      2. To advance in life and help young people through providing support and activities which develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals. 

   - There should be at least one visit to TPC in Uganda each year by a Trustee or Permanent Consultant, but this will depend upon prevailing conditions. 

## **Operational Developments during 2024-2025** 

- We have welcomed Anique Kruger (sponsor liaison) as our third Permanent Consultant, in addition to Kat Shkurka (child wellbeing), Mao Nakano (publicity), and they attend Trustee meetings. 

- TPC continues to fully support 41 children (including 1 at nursing college, 2 at vocational college and 4 at university). There are 16 secondary boarders and 18 primary school residents. 

- The trustees held 7 video conference meetings in the reporting period; including one with the directors at TPC in Uganda. 

- Policies are regularly reviewed and updated. 

- • There are 15 children in the PEACE programme, on a school-only support basis. These children live in their local community. 

- New Government regulations require that secondary children have to board at schools. This means that our costs have increased as we have 16  boarders. 

- We have had to take in abandoned children, as required by the probation officer. 

- • 3 of our students have joined university this year • There are now 3 students doing A-level who will possibly progress to college. 



- There are 6 new children as residents. 

- The main costs are now split between 35% school fees & associated costs, 21% wages, 20% meals. 

- A visit took place from 18 students at Dulwich School Shanghai to The Peace Centre. 

- • The students from Shanghai painted many of the outside walls around the living areas, built a trampoline and took part in community visits. 

- The students taught lessons at the local Primary and Secondary schools, and made a donation of science equipment. Several families became sponsors as a result of this trip. 

- They undertook many activities with the children from The Peace Centre such as making robotic vehicles, decorating pencil cases, helping to write letters to sponsors and organising games and sporting activities. 

- One Permanent Consultant held several business meetings with the directors of The Peace Centre. 

- Despite a difficult financial environment, our income streams have been maintained, including a successful quiz night which raised £12,000

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended **31 / 10 / 2022.** 

**Responsibilities and basis of report** As the charity trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

Independent examiner's I have completed my examination.  I confirm that no material matters have come to my statement attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect,: 

• the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act; or • the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or • the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. 

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
